Kōki by Mono Izakaya is a café by day and transforms into Equatorial Pan-Asian restaurant by night.
Tucked away on the second floor of 60A Duxton Road near Tanjong Pagar, it may not be the easiest spot to find.

When I arrived, I even thought it was closed due to the unassuming entrance upstairs.
However, stepping inside revealed an izakaya-like counter, green upholstered chairs, and a striking wall mural featuring blooming branches.
The menu at Kōki by Mono Izakaya features a range of toasts, sandwiches, and drip coffee selections.
Sandwich options include the Royal Brioche Thick Toast ($7), Hokkaido Milky Shokupan Toast ($6), Ogura Sando ($10), and the Goma Egg Mayo Sando ($14) which features sesame-flavoured egg mayo and crisp lettuce.
For heartier appetites, the Breakfast Toast ($16) includes scrambled eggs, smoked gouda, and ham.
I decided to try the Mc Riddles ($18), a sando made with the café’s signature shokupan bread.
The bread itself made with Hokkaido milk, Japanese eggs and French cream was soft and airy. Enjoyed the slightly sweet undertone that worked well with the savoury filling.
The scrambled egg was creamy, and the maple bourbon gave the sandwich a hint of sweetness without being overpowering.
Overall, promising and filling enough without feeling too heavy.
If you prefer something sweet, there are Selfish Pound Cakes such as Very Orange ($8) and Salted Lemon & Cream Cheese ($8).
Or choose the Naked Muffins like Banana Maple Crumble ($7), Rosemary & Sundried Tomato ($8), and Matcha White Chocolate Strawberry ($7).
I ordered the Matcha White Chocolate Strawberry Muffin ($7).
The matcha flavour was present but not as pronounced as I would have liked, and the white chocolate provided a touch of creaminess.
It was enjoyable but not something I would immediately recommend as a must-try considering its price point.
Kōki offers a selection of drip coffee, featuring Guacamaya Caturra Washed Guatemala ($10) with flavours of blueberry jam and golden syrup, and the Hadeso Natural Organic Ethiopia ($12), featuring ripe guava and citrus.
I opted for the Finca Bet-el Pink Bourbon Semi-Washed Colombia drip coffee ($10).
The coffee had a smooth and delicate profile, with distinct notes of strawberry and citrus.
The fruity flavours were well-balanced, and a hint of vanilla came through in the aftertaste. It was a refreshing brew that felt light yet complex.
Kōki by Mono Izakaya excels with its sandos made with quality shokupan bread, which I found to be the most promising part of the menu.
With a bit more focus refining their sweet options, it has the potential.
