Calligraph Coffee presents itself as a promising spot for both coffee and matcha lovers.
Located at DUO Galleria at Bugis, this cafe has a minimalist approach, focusing on delivering premium matcha sourced directly from Japan.
The ambiance at Calligraph Coffee is sleek and modern, with a decor that mirrors its straightforward philosophy – “Less is More”.
It had a calming atmosphere, making it a possible spot for those looking to enjoy a quiet moment with their drink.
As for the menu, Calligraph Coffee offers a curated selection of beverages such as Einspanner ($7.90), Coconut Americano ($7.90), Matcha Espresso Latte ($7.90), and Hot Chocolate ($7.20).
However, it is the matcha that takes the spotlight here.
Calligraph Coffee offers a curated selection of high-grade matcha, ranging from the robust and full-bodied Zen to the delicate, nutty Miyabi.
The Wa blend is well-balanced with a gentle bitterness, while Sen brings a smoky, roasted hojicha flavour.
I had the Iced Matcha Latte ($6.20) made with the Wa blend which delivered a smooth balance between the matcha’s subtle bitterness and the creamy sweetness of milk.
For coffee drinkers, there is also the Hei Blend at Calligraph Coffee.
This blend combines beans from Brazil and Papua New Guinea, offering a balanced flavour profile.
This medium to dark roast, processed both naturally and washed, delivers rich notes of cherry, dark chocolate, and raisin.
The cafe also offers a modest selection of pastries and light bites. However, some might find the selection somewhat limited compared to other cafes.
I was rather surprised to find the Banana Custard Muffin pretty good (better than the usual café offerings), with moist texture and slight creamy custard center.
While Calligraph Coffee has many strengths, the menu is somewhat specialised, focusing primarily on coffee and matcha, which might not satisfy those looking for a broader selection.
Perhaps they can also look at offering Matcha related sweets in the future.
