What a blast to the past.

If you are looking for a hidden gem when it comes to local kaya toast and coffee, there is Seng Hong Coffee Shop at Lengkok Bahru.

This coffee stall near Redhill MRT station offers a slice of nostalgia with its traditional approach to local breakfast favourites.

There is also a 58 Lengkok Bahru Minced Meat Noodle which customers could come for as well.

The entire vibes and old-school ambience hark back to days of the 80s and 90s, offering a taste that might remind some of their parents’ (or grandparents’) era.

It did remind me a little of Heap Seng Leong – which my friend remarked has more character, but also more touristy as well.

Steamed Bread?

Yes, there is the option of Steamed Bread, not-overly-common in the coffee shop scene, complementing the conventional toasted varieties.

The Steamed Bread has been likened to clouds for its softness.

I wanted to have the Toasted Bread instead, which was not the crisp type, and instead more to the fluffy side.

While the kaya spread and butter could have been more generous, there was an old-school savour about it which you hardly get nowadays.

The local kopi was aromatic, thick, full-bodied, and not too bitter at all.

This coffee shop is a place where the food’s simplicity and the setting’s nostalgia contribute significantly to the experience.

A place to enjoy the simplicity of yesterday – when all our troubles seemed so far away.
