[Ho Chi Minh City] Strangely, one of the top food recommendations from others when they knew I was visiting HCMC is Pizza 4P’s, because it does not serve Vietnamese food.

Pizza 4P’s has somehow crafted a unique niche in the bustling Vietnamese food scene, doing so by blending the art of Japanese craftsmanship with the heart of Italian pizza making.

This fusion restaurant, first opened by Yosuke and Sunny Masuko, has quickly risen to prominence not just for its pizza but for embodying a philosophy of s local production.

The founders’ journey began with a simple pizza oven and a dream, which has since expanded into a chain of restaurants across Vietnam (and even Phnom Penh and Tokyo).

Locations in Ho Chi Minh City include Saigon Centre, Thiso Mall, Bến Thành, Hai Bà Trưng, and Estella Place among others.

I visited the outlet at Saigon Centre due to convenience. Inspired by the Japanese Karesansui gardens, the space designed by Kazufumi Suzuki, integrates traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern elements.

The terrazzo flooring and the central pizza counter, reminiscent of a waterless stream garden, are particularly striking.

While the restaurant was constantly busy (do make reservations first), the ambiance was still inviting.

The essence of Pizza 4P’s lies in its commitment to locally sourced ingredients, particularly their cheese, which is grown on their own farms in Da Lat.

As for their menu, it offers an array of pizzas and pastas that cater to varied palates, including the Burrata Parma Ham Pizza (VND298,000), Milano Salami & Chorizo Margherita Pizza (VND228,000), to House-made 3 Cheese Pizza (VND198,000).

There are also other interesting Asian inspired choices of Salmon Miso Cream Pizza (VND273,000), Shrimp Mayonnaise Pizza (VND245,000), Spicy Beef Kebab Pizza (VND273,000), to Bo Kho Pizza (VND200,000).

The good thing is you can order the half-and-half to try one more flavour.

To be honest, I was expecting a crispier crust, as mine turned out to be quite limp – it was slightly disappointing for me for all that I have heard about.

The Soy Garlic Beef side with tender slices of beef marinated in a rich soy garlic sauce, though the ingredients would easily fall off the pizza as you hold a slice.

The Milano Salami & Chorizo Margherita was my preferred side, which introduced a spicy and slightly smoky flavour, with the salami and chorizo providing a robust meatiness.

The Crab Tomato Cream Spaghetti with Ricotta Cheese (VND248,000) changed my initial impression all together, with an ”ooh la la” moment.

It was such a sumptuous offering that married the velvety tomato cream sauce with generous chunks of succulent crab meat scattered throughout.

It was also this sweet and briny depth, wonderfully complemented by the mild and creamy ricotta cheese dolloped on top.

The starter of Creamy Seafood Croquettes with Tomato Sauce (VND158,000) was another winner, presenting a crispy exterior that gives way to a soft, creamy interior.

The burst of sweet seafood taste alongside the homemade tomato sauce with bright tanginess made this irresistible.

Service was also prompt and friendly, making a first-time diner and foreigner like myself feel all at east.

Reservations are highly recommended to avoid disappointment. The restaurant’s success is evidenced by the crowds it draws, a testament to its tasty offerings and ambience.
