Here’s a new café addition to the East of Singapore at Siglap.
This spot though, has changed hands a number of times – from its predecessors Stamping Ground to Bloom Coffee.
In comes Buzzed Coffee Bar which offers a new neighbourhood hangout along Upper East Coast Road.
Since it opens from 8am till 12am (on a number of days), Buzzed is a place where early risers can get their caffeine fix, enjoy light bites and hearty meals throughout the day.
And unwind with cold beers on tap as the evening sets in.
The cafe retains the Scandinavian aesthetic and layout of the previous, with stylish bar dominating the centre.
There is also a naturally ventilated patio for those who prefer dining al fresco.
The lunch menu, probably still a work in progress, is on the lean side with Tiger Prawn Alio Olio ($24) and Truffle Mushroom Pasta ($20).
There are other brunch items of croissant ($5 onwards) coming in various fillings from egg, tuna, crab to gravlax; along with a Buzzed Brunch ($26) of a Big Breakfast arrangement of eggs, croissant, sausages, diced mushrooms, roasted tomato, and salad.
The Tiger Prawn Alio Olio ($24) aimed to captivate with its simple yet promising blend of garlic and olive oil emulsion, generously topped with three sautéed tiger prawns.
Despite the allure of its ingredients, the dish fell short of expectations. The pasta itself was disappointingly limp, missing the al dente texture that aficionados of Italian cuisine specifically look for.
This lack of texture left a sense of missed opportunity.
For nibbles, there are all day sides of Truffle Fries ($12), Mentaiko Fries ($14), Nuggets ($10), Spam Fingers ($12), Charred Broccoli ($10) and Winglets ($12).
The coffee with beans sourced from Flip Coffee Roasters worked well, with balance between the robust espresso and the creamy milk.
Buzzed Coffee Bar does focus heavier on their beverage selection, including a variety of craft beers and cocktails, to carve out a niche in the highly competitive coffee scene of the East.
