“When are we going to this new Korean-vibe cafe at Haji Lane?”

“Sooner or Later”.

That’s the most common reply I got from my friends when I tried to jio them for cafes.

Sooner or Later has recently opened at Haji Lane in Bugis, with both cosy indoors and alfresco seating areas.

Occupying the first floor of the shophouse, the interior has an industrial and minimalist touch, from the cemented walls to the matte metal bar counter and table tops.

The use of raw materials with a muted tone and an unfinished look somehow reminds me of Found Café at Orchard Ngee Ann City.

This is further completed when food is served on metal plates and ceramic bowls.

Their menu features a selection of handcrafted drink ($4.50 – $9), pastries ($5 – $8.50), savoury croissant ($7 – $18) and ice cream (Single $4.80, Double $8).

3 different savoury options are available for their croissant – Egg Mayo ($7), Thai Chicken ($10) and Mentaiko Crab Meat ($18).

The Mentaiko Crab Meat ($18) comes with generous amount of shredded crab meat stuffings, drizzled with mentaiko sauce before torching and tobiko added for the extra crunch.

The crab meat is soft and chilled with a briny taste, complemented well by the slightly spicy mentaiko sauce and sweet, buttery croissant.

Chips are also served on the side to complete the meal.

A small selection of pastries are available here: Miso Caramel Brownie ($5), Hazelnut Brownie ($5.50), Banana Bread ($6), Black Sesame Cake ($8) and Earl Grey Cake ($8.50).

Unlike the ones we are familiar with, the Black Sesame Cake ($8) comes a black sesame ganache on top with chocolate infused within.

I wished that the nutty profile of the black sesame can be more pronounced as the flavour leaned towards the more chocolatey side.

Their ice cream (Single $4.80, Double $8) flavours do look interesting though, such as Salted Butterscotch, Oreo Milk, Red Velvet Cake, Cheese Crackers, Oolong Osmanthus and Yuzu sorbet.

Optional add-ons are available such as Waffle ($6), Brownie ($4) or with 2 shots of espresso in the form of an Affogato ($8),

I liked the Salted Butterscotch ice cream, with brown butter, sea salt and Graham pie crust added for the textures.

The Oolong Osmanthus on the other hand was a bit more muted and less distinctive.

The waffle is worth a mention, crispy on the outside and light and airy on the inside.

Using a 3-beans-blend from Costa Rica, Brazil and Indonesia, roasted by Caffeine Pro, for their espresso-based drink, a cup of espresso starts from $4.50.

Their signature drink is their Black Sesame ($8), with add-on Dairy Milk (+$1) or Oat Milk (+$1).

I enjoyed the Sesame Latte ($9) which is pretty unique and robust, with earthly and nutty flavours.

With a nice ambience for some good drinks and pastries, this cafe may get crowded Sooner or Later.
