Serving Teochew porridge in Hougang since 1955, Ah Seah Teochew Porridge or Ah Seah Eating House is a heritage brand founded by Lee Huat – it was named after his nickname “Ah Seah”.

Unfortunately for fans, Ah Seah Eating House has announced that the Teochew muay eatery will be closing 19 June 2022 – that Sunday will be its last day of service.

At 15, Ah Seah began working at a Teochew porridge shop along Upper Serangoon Road where he learned the skill of porridge-making.

He opened his first stall in 1964 at the former Lim Tua Tow Market and has relocated many times.

Today a household name, Ah Seah Teochew Porridge serves its loyal customers from Teck Chye Terrance (near Kovan) the same authentic, traditional Teochew dishes.

His daughter, Carol runs the shop.

Menu is simple with signature minced meat, mixed vegetables, braised duck and braised pork to go with their plain porridge.

Seafood dishes are aplenty, like homemade fish cake (from $1), stingray (from $3), mermaid fish (from $3), ikan bilis and chili ikan bilis (from $3), chili dry shrimp (from $5), lala (from $5), sotong (from $5), and fish head (from $5).

Steamed fish with salted veggies, Leatherjacket, Batang Fried, Batang Assam, Black Pomfret, Grouper are available depending on market price.

The meat line up covers pork, duck, and chicken.

For pork, they offer Braised Pork, Pork Trotters, Small and Large Intestines, Pork Skin, Minced Pork Ball, Ngoh Hiang, and Muay Chye with Pork.

Duck lovers can try their Braised Duck (from $10), Duck Head ($1/pc), or Duck Wings ($0.70/pc).

A few chicken dishes are available like the Sesame Chicken (from $5), Curry Chicken (from $3), and Chicken Feet with Bean Curd Skin (from $3).

Many fans will miss its homely, comforting taste of the muay and dishes. You can up to 19th June to head over to have one last meal (or a few) there.
