Meow~ Baker’s Brew has launched their all-NEW Fortune Cat Collection in 2022.
They come in these brightly-coloured tins designed with the cutest Fortune Cats – since it is the zodiac year of the Tiger.
Each Fortune Cat tin is dressed in different festive attires with both front and back portraits imprinted, pawfect for gifting this festive season.
These adorable guardians named Tian Tian, Quan Quan, An An, Wang Wang, and Nian Nian, are actually designed by the Baker’s Brew team.
Open the tins to reveal delightful and addictive CNY snacks including Ondeh Ondeh Cookies, Pineapple Pillows, Pineaepple Bak Kwa Cookies, Peanut Almond Cookies, and Hae Bee Hiam Cookies.
I think what I liked about them are that they are bite-sized (so you can have two or more without feeling guilty), and the inside remain surprisingly moist.
In that aspect, I would recommend keeping them at room temperature rather than within a fridge. However, they are best consumed within 10 days after collection for the best quality.
Each tin is priced at $27.80, and get an entire set of 5 at a special price of $128 (U.P. $139).
Here are the paw-some flavours inspired by Southeast Asian staples and Peranakan flavours to look out for this Chinese New Year:
Ondeh Ondeh Cookies ($27.80)
Baker’s Brew best-seller signature is back this year by redefining the traditional Ondeh Ondeh kueh and making them in the form of a cookie.
Using a Pandan-infused dough to create the natural green hue and generously stuffed with gula melaka coconut filling that is moist and flavourful, this is truly an indulgence.
These aromatic green pandan-infused doughs contain a substantial amount of Gula Melaka coconut filling that is slow cooked for hours.
This produces a mellow and flavourful sweet taste, complemented with the crunchy coconut fillings.
Pineapple Pillows (low sugar) ($27.80)
Classic pineapple tarts are a staple at every CNY gatherings. Made with traditional butter & cheese pastry filled with premium Thai pineapple paste, I enjoyed the delightful balance of sweet and salty flavours packed within each bite.
Specially created with a reduced level of sweetness, they are ideal as a guilt-free CNY snack. Pop one in the mouth, and experience that melt-in-mouth sensation.
Pineapple Bak Kwa Cookies ($27.80)
A modern savoury spin on traditional sweet pineapple tarts, the butter cookies are filled with premium Thai pineapple paste blended with REAL bak kwa for a unique combination.
Savour the combination of textures and flavours – from the buttery crust on the outside, to the sweet pineapple and chewy bak kwa on the inside.
Actually, the bak kwa surprise only comes towards the end, and just gives that delicate tinge of savouriness.
Hae Bee Hiam Cookies ($27.80)
New on this year’s menu is the Hae Bee Hiam in the snack form that packs a punch – with that distinct spicy shrimp flavour giving a sense of nostalgia.
Words of caution: this can be quite an addictive cookie with that delicate-spicy kick. After all, these cookies are made Peranakan-style using aromatic shrimp and sambal condiments.
Peanut Almond Cookies ($27.80)
Another new item in the CNY offerings is the Peanut Almond Cookie which is classic, traditional, and homely at the same time.
With fragrant nutty flavours and roasted buttery pastry layers, these were soft and crumbly with that melt-in-the-mouth sensation.
