Do you remember Park Mall? Or perhaps even Supreme House?
People used to go to this Furniture Mall for Mongolian BBQ Buffet and the iconic Fish & Co restaurant next door, but the area has been totally transformed.
You would find UBS Singapore Business Hub at 9 Penang Road, with an entire stretch of new F&Bs on the ground floor.
Edith Patisserie at North Bridge Road has opened their second outlet here with a dine-in seating area, and some outdoor seats.
Just a few doors away, there is also Degree Celsius – a white, minimalist cafe which opened earlier this year.
Edith Patisserie is named in memory of the owner Ethel’s mother, who passed away when Ethel was 18 years old.
Being a home-grown bakery established in 2013, they specialise in layered cakes, brownies and tarts for birthdays, weddings and other celebratory events.
Their aim is to create something new and original according to local palate and I remembered buying their Original, Matcha and Thai Milk Tea Boba Tarts when they first launched it few years ago.
Coincidentally, my birthday cake this year is also from Edith Patisserie – made of matcha ganache, matcha sponge and topped with black boba pearls.
However, note that the Boba Cake is available as a whole, but not sliced here. Hopefully they do soon.
The 25-seater-space is painted in the same deep forest-green colour as their first outlet, complemented with shades of grey and light brown.
The walls have an industrial cemented finishing, further equipped with wooden furniture and dried flowers hanging on the wall to complete a botanical look.
Two separate cake shelves are available, one filled with sliced cakes and the other display with whole cakes.
Instead of the triangular versions available for takeaways at their North Bridge Road outlet, the cakes here are sliced into rectangular shaped like our local confectionery shops.
Apart from cakes, pastries such as Cinnamon Roll ($2.50), Mini Apple Pie ($2.50), Pain Au Chocolat ($3) and Kimchi Cheese Roll ($2.60) are also available.
Their cake shelf features a wide selection of their bestsellers: Cookie Dough Speculoos Chocolate ($8), Mango Pomelo ($8), Lychee Rose ($8) and Earl Grey Lavender ($8).
Other cakes on display include Pandan Coconut Gula Melaka ($8), Classic Chocolate ($8), Thai Milk Tea ($8), Raspberry Passionfruit ($8), Chocolate Praline Passionfruit ($8), Mini Yuzu Strawberry Loaves ($5), Mini Lemon Loaves ($4.30) and Brownies ($1.70).
My favourite was the Lychee Rose Cake ($8) made using alternating layers of vanilla swiss sponge and rose-scented buttercream – very floral and fragrant.
The sponge cake was very light, fluffy and moist which complemented well with the delicate rose flavour.
The chopped lychee pieces came as a surprise, making every bite more ‘exciting’ by adding a juicy crunch to the overall textures.
The Thai Milk Tea Cake ($8) is worth a mention, coming with layers of Thai tea sponge and Thai tea Chantilly cream, topped with butter cream and dried tea leaves.
Glad that it didn’t turn out to be cloyingly sweet, lightly scented with tea fragrance with a light and airy texture.
Using the Throwback blend (Brazil and Guatemala) from PPP Coffee, my cup of Flat White ($6) was smooth and robust with 2 shots of espresso, medium bodied with a chocolatey and roasted nuts taste.
Other espresso-based options include Double Espresso ($3.50), Long Black ($4.50) and Latte ($6), whereas non-espresso options include Peach/ Lychee Rose/ Blissful Berries Tea ($5) and Iced Fruit Tea ($7).
Plated desserts such as Chocolate/ Mixed Berries Waffles ($13) and Matcha Terrine ($17) on the menu were unfortunately not available on both days of visit.
Since their outlet at North Bridge Road only offers takeaway options, fans of Edith Patisserie can get to finally dine-in and sit down to have a slice of their favourite desserts.
