[Taipei] While most tourists head to Yong Kang Beef Noodles 永康牛肉麺館 for a taste of Taiwanese Beef Noodles, the locals may just recommend you to walk about 10 minutes more to Liao Jia Beef Noodles 廖家牛肉麵.

With more than 40 years of history, Liao Jia Beef Noodles 廖家牛肉麵 has kept its beef noodles one of the best and must-try Taiwan beef noodles in Taipei.

In case you are on a Taiwanese Beef Noodles search, some of the recommend eateries include Lin Dong Fang Beef Noodles 林東芳牛肉麵, Liu Shandong Beef Noodles 劉山東牛肉麵, Niu Dian Beef Noodles 牛店, Halal Chinese Beef Noodles 清真中國牛肉麵食館, and Jian Hong Beef Noodles 建宏牛肉麵.

Similar dish, all varying styles.

Back to Liao Jia, it has relocated back in 2013 to Jinhua Street and since then has become a pilgrimage point for foodies exploring the bustling commercial and educational Da’an district.

It was also included in the Taipei Michelin Guide with a Bib Gourmand.

There is always a constant queue here with many regulars, and waiting time can be anything from 20 to 30 minutes.

The menu is lean, serving Beef Noodles (NT$170, NT$200), Beef Soup Noodles (NT$100, NT$110), Beef Soup (NT$200), Beef Bone Soup (NT$100), and Minced Meat & Mushroom Dry Noodles (NT$100, NT$110).

Most customers will also add on side dishes which you can pick from the refrigerated area.

I can understand why Liao Jia is so well-liked.

The broth is full of flavour, distilled and prepared from hours of simmering in beef shin, beef fat, bones, and Sichuan pepper.

You get this robustness, slightly on the saltier side but not over.

Its beef brisket is firm and packs deep flavours, and is rather lean minus the tendons or fat.

As for the noodles, they are thin and firm while maintaining a chewy texture.

What I liked that there was also quite a lot of water spinach added, and the greens helped to cut some of that richness.

Pair your piping hot bowl of noodles with some cold sides, like the Hokkaido-sourced kelp. Or go for the dried tofu marinated for at least 3 hours – very yummy.

This eatery is about a 10 minutes’ walk from the bustling Yong Kang Street, and closes pretty early with no dinner service.
