If you haven’t heard, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019 awards has taken place right here in Singapore, on the 25th of June at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) Expo & Convention Centre.

Sometimes referred to the ‘Oscars’ of the culinary world, this is the first time the awards ceremony will actually take place in Asia.

Perhaps the chance to rub shoulders with renowned chefs such as Massimo Bottura (Osteria Francescana), Gaggan Anand (Gaggan) and Tetsuya Wakuda (Waku Ghin)?

But wait…

A award ceremony is not without its fair share of controversy.

Firstly, a new ruling states that previous Number 1s would not be eligible to enter the list, which means renowned restaurants such as Osteria Francescana, El Celler de Can Rocaand Eleven Madison Park are out of the running.

The voters who are made up of chefs, writers, and taste hunters, are also “gender-balanced” this year.

Mirazur by Chef Mauro Colagreco which offers progressive European plates inspired by the French Riviera and their Argentine creator’s roots, is ranked The World’s Best Restaurant 2019. It has also received its first 3 Michelin stars this year.

Considering that this major food event is held in SINGAPORE, there is not as much buzz as what you would have anticipated, even among many of the foodies.

Singapore has two restaurants in the Top 120: Odette, at No 18 (up from 28), and Burnt Ends at No.59 (up from 61).
