Seven & Ate is positioned as an all-day gastropub, which promises quality food in a casual dining environment.

Oh, and not forgetting the beers.

Taking over the previous space of Bao Makers, Seven & Ate retained the industrial interior vibes from former space.

This is with minimal cluttering and wooden furniture to give the space an unfinished look.

The food menu was kept simple and classified into three categories – Sandwiches, Burgers and Quinoa Bowls.

Do not expect healthy sandwiches over here.

I was quite tempted by their range of hearty sandwiches such as Grilled Cheese ($6), Spam & Egg ($7), Pork Belly ($8) and Pulled Duck ($9).

I went for the Steak & Cheese ($11) which came with beef steak, picked onion, Djion mustard and topped with lots of shaved parmesan cheese.

Quite a calorie bomb, but I like.

The burger came in the size of slider and served together with shoe string fries.

While there were only two options to choose from, the Tonkatsu ($15) left an impression with its juicy grilled pork patties well-seasoned with honey mustard, sour cream onion and BBQ sauce.

Mmmm….. so rich in flavour.

My only qualm was that I found the name misleading, for “Tonkatsu” generally refers to deep-fried pork cutlet, rather than grilled pork. Hmm, not too sure if it was named like that with a purpose.

For healthier option, their Quinoa Bowls would be your best bet.

With Grilled Steak ($15), Pulled Duck ($15), Roasted Chicken ($12) and Fried Egg Plant ($12) to choose from, all bowls are served with quinoa base, guacamole, squash, wedges and poach egg for a nutritious meal.

Bringing your attention to their Breaded Eggplant ($7) which came light and crunchy. Paired with their house-made cold bell pepper sauce for a mild spicy kick.

The perfect sides to go with ice cold beer and I almost finished the whole serving on my own.

While their food menu is not extensive, I generally liked how they made their food ingredients and condiments from scratch.

I guess it’s about doing what they are good at doing best while ensuring food quality and consistency.
