[Penang] Known for its local delights such as Assam Laksa, Curry Mee and Chendol, the food culture in Penang is much more than that.

The emergence of new cafes with personality has also upped the game a little.

Lavish Fusion Bakery is the latest brainchild by Love A Loaf, an established bakery which originated in 2014.

The bakery now owns 3 stores across Penang, as well as an overseas store in Bangkok.

Located within the area of George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lavish positions itself slightly differently from Love A Loaf.

It provides a neatly curated space for people to spend their quiet afternoon, while enjoying their lavish range of pastries and dessert creations.

Despite being a relatively young bakery, Lavish has managed to capture the eye-balls of many on IG due to its creative bakes as well as an insta-worthiness interior – a vertical garden wall with ample amount of natural lighting.

I can totally imagine many Singapore travelers who will head over for that mandatory #OOTD shot.

Lavish serves an assortment of fresh bakes such as croissants, Danish pastries and cronuts.

Lavish seemed to have taken a liking for cronuts and created a range of savory and sweet variants such as Salted Egg Caramel and Durian Musang King (RM 24.90, SGD $8.20).

(The Cronut is a hybrid between croissant and donut, or basically a donut-shaped croissant with flaky layered interior made famous by Dominique Ansel Bakery.)

The Uji Matcha Cronut (RM 23.90, SGD$8) though pricey, left an impression with its crusty skin and generous fillings.

I loved how its matcha filling was evenly coated in between the layers, making every bite enjoyable with a lingering bitter-sweetness.

(Interestingly, Singapore did not really catch on to the Cronut trend back then.)

The café also serves a range of dessert drinks such as Passion Fruit Mango Tea, Magnum Coffee Frappe and Caramel Popcorn Milkshake, priced from RM 16.50 (SGD$5.50) onwards.

These photogenic drinks serve as a good thirst quencher for Penang’s hot weather.

I applaud Lavish’s effort for constantly coming up with new creations such as Volcanic Lava Cubes and Snowy Ice Cream Croissant.

They are now also into Over-the-top Unicorn Drinks. More reasons to head over?
