Of course I was excited when I found out that Belgian chocolate brand Godiva has opened its 1st concept cafe in Singapore at ION Orchard.

The 40-seater is also Godiva’s first café in Southeast Asia, located right next to In Good Company Café

One can imagine having the popular Godivas Chocolate Soft Serve, Chocolixirs, Belgium Waffle with Soft Serve, Chocolate Fondue Set and other beverages in a comfortable space, right after shopping.

The items exclusive to the Singapore outlet include Belgium Waffle with Godiva Soft Serve ($14), Belgium Waffle with Fruits and Whipped Cream ($12) and Chocolate Fondant with Godiva Soft Serve ($14).

Before you go around texting your tai-tai friends, here’s a look at the Belgium Waffle with Mixed Vanilla and Chocolate Soft Serve.

As a point of reference, I also included my friend’s hand and iPhone 7+ for size comparison.

Actually, I did not have that much of a problem for its smaller portion, more than its colour – pale beige-yellow. The inside of the waffle didn’t look overly cooked as well.

The server explained that that was how the waffle was typically served and was “the normal colour”. She did offer to re-do (good service recovery) a browner version.

Then, I learnt that the waffles were merely heated in the kitchen, and not made fresh on the spot.

So the tip here is, you can let the server know if you want your waffles pale or tanned.

In another visit, I ordered the Dark Chocolate Soft Serve with seasonal fruit ($12), which tasted more or less like the usual Godiva standard, but the presentation looked sad.

Okay, very sad.

I didn’t want to sound like a difficult customer, but was also surprised that the Hazelnut Hot Chocolate ($9) looked nothing like the menu’s photo. (I am kind of used to the ‘reality vs expectation’ thing, but not this far-fetched.)

Only two-thirds full probably, without the pictured powder, cream, Godiva chocolate.

So another note here is: pictures are for illustration only.

I guess I should just go for their rich indulgent creamy Dark Chocolate Soft Serve ($9). At least that generally does not let me down, unless they are haphazardly twirled.

Drinks such as Iced Coffee ($9), and the signature Chocolixir ($9) are available in flavours of Mint Dark Chocolate, Lemon White Chocolate, Raspberry Dark Chocolate and Blueberry White Chocolate.

If you need to find a cafe at busy Orchard Road to rest your feet.
