Oh, Equate has opened in the heart of town at Orch Oh, Equate has opened in the heart of town at Orchard Central.

It makes me happy to see a more indie coffee brand in malls, rather than the usual.

You see see inverted trees there.

The space is designed as an upside-down world, anchored around an installation of uprooted trees planted up-side down in the main dining area.

Not the typical.

Sandos #sandoiseverywhere are made from house-made Shokupan bread, sandwiching a variety of flavours such as Tonkatsu ($15.80) and Spam Truffle Egg Mayo ($13.80).

With a light crispy bread, thick soft spam, and ‘aromatic’ truffle egg mayo that had just that right creaminess without the sandwich falling apart, this was quite a decent treat.

Interesting. Peranakan Medley Yule Log. Celebrat Interesting. Peranakan Medley Yule Log.

Celebrating well-loved local flavours, this pandan chiffon cake is rolled and filled with coconut crème blended with sweet mangoes, passion fruit, and banana.

The smooth cream is balanced with crunchy caramelised rice crisps and sweet Gula Melaka.

Tasted almost like Ondeh Ondeh in a log cake form.

The other is (swipe right) Tropical Noel Yule Log with an orange almond Joconde (sponge) base has more sparkling flavours. It mingles mango pomelo crème with caramelised pineapple and citrus crisp for a refreshing mix.

Modern Taiwanese Cafe Abundance opens NEW Jalan Be Modern Taiwanese Cafe Abundance opens NEW Jalan Besar outlet offering Beef Lu Rou Fan and Mala Popcorn Chicken.

A new addition to the Jalan Besar outlet would be the Braised Beef Rice ($16.90) which is a twist to the familiar Taiwanese-style Lu Rou Fan which typically incorporates braised pork belly.

While slightly on the expensive side comparatively, the “Niu Lu Rou Fan” worked because the beef cubes were saucy and almost melt-in-the-mouth, balanced with pickled vegetables and chilli which you could add with a kick.

As for the Mala Popcorn Chicken, what I liked was that the chunks were meaty and succulent, and not just starchy and covered with flour.

Good stuff.

Abundance – Jalan Besar
399 Jalan Besar, Singapore 209008
Opening Hours: 11am – 3ppm, 4pm – 10pm (Wed – Sun), Closed Mon, Tues

Are you wondering why I had 3 cups of Coffee? ☕️ First, there is 1-for-1 Coffee at the NEW 22 Grams Coffee (till tomorrow 16 Dec).

And it was good enough to have just one more.

The cafe is founded by a group of passionate professional people, including a barista previously from %Arabica.

Coffee is the focus here, currently using a blend of Brazilian and Panama Caturra coffee beans.

Using this blend of two types of beans, they create this complex-tasting coffee with a rich, full-bodied flavour with slight bright and sweet notes – pretty well-balanced I must say. One of the better ones I had in the CBD.

22 Grams Café
Frasers Tower #01-K1, 182 Cecil Street, Singapore 069547
Opening Hours: 8am – 5pm (Mon – Fri), Closed Sat, Sun
