Am I right to say Samgyetang is not that difficult to find in Singapore anymore, especially with the opening of restaurants like MODU, JIHO Hanbang Samgyetang and BOMUL Samgyetang.
Kimpson’s Table at Far East Square is another restaurant putting the Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup right at the centre of its menu.
The name may be new to some, though Chef Patrick Kim had actually started Kimpson’s Table as a home-based delivery business in 2025 before moving into this permanent restaurant.
He had previously trained and worked in Korean kitchens in Singapore, and the idea here is closer to the sort of home-style Korean food you would have as a complete meal.
That direction becomes quite obvious from the menu, which is kept relatively focused around Samgyetang ($18), Chicken Kalguksu ($15), Chicken Bibim Kalguksu ($15) and Hansang set meals, together with pancakes and fried chicken for sharing.
I started with the Samgyetang ($18), which comes with half a chicken, glutinous rice, ginseng, red dates and garlic in a broth that is simmered for several hours.
The broth was definitely on the lighter side, with a cleaner and gentler flavour rather than the deeper chicken sweetness or stronger herbal character I usually associate with Samgyetang.
I could understand why some people might prefer it this way, especially if they do not like their soups too heavy or medicinal, though personally I found myself wishing there was just a little more depth.
The chicken itself was tender enough, and with the glutinous rice inside, the whole bowl still felt quite substantial despite the lighter broth.
I also had the Beef Bulgogi Hansang ($17), which comes as a complete set with rice, soup and three banchan.
This was probably where I noticed the lighter seasoning even more. Bulgogi usually has that familiar sweet-savoury marinade that clings quite strongly to the beef, but the version here was much more mild and did not have the same intensity I expected.
Again, I do think this is very much part of the restaurant’s cooking style rather than an inconsistency, because the food across the meal generally seemed to favour cleaner, less aggressive seasoning.
Other Hansang sets include Spicy Pork Bulgogi ($16) and Chuncheon Chicken Bulgogi ($16), while the sharing side of the menu is considerably more indulgent with Kimchi Pancake ($12), Potato Pancake ($12), Cheese Potato Pancake ($14) and several versions of boneless Korean fried chicken.
Prices are also relatively reasonable for this part of the CBD, with most of the signatures and Hansang sets still below $20, which makes Kimpson’s Table easy enough to consider for lunch without turning it into a special-occasion meal.
