West Coast Market Square (also known as West Coast Food Centre) may not immediately come to mind as one of Singapore’s destination hawker centres, but there is quite a bit to eat once you start walking through its rows.

Located at Block 726 Clementi West Street 2, opposite West Coast Plaza, the food centre has long served the surrounding West Coast and Clementi neighbourhood.

You can find everything from Braised Duck and Fishball Noodles to Malay food, handmade noodles, vegetarian zichar and even a Hong Kong-style bakery.

There is now another reason to revisit the food centre, as West Coast Market Square is scheduled to close from 14 September to 28 December 2026 for renovation works.

That means more than three months without the food centre, which would probably feel especially long for regulars who have their usual breakfast or lunch stalls here.

If you have not explored West Coast Market Square in a while, here are some stalls to check out before the renovation begins.

He Ji Braised Duck at West Coast Market Square

He Ji Braised Duck 合記
West Coast Market Square #01-162
Opening Hours: 9am – 5pm (Mon – Tues, Thurs – Sun), Closed Wed

He Ji Braised Duck is easily one of the more recognisable stalls here, especially with rows of bronzed ducks hanging prominently behind the glass.

Its signboard states “Since 1970”, and the menu has remained very much in the old-school braised duck tradition with Braised Duck Rice, Porridge and Noodles priced from $3, alongside Kway Chap ($4).

If you are eating with family, larger portions of duck are available too, including half a duck at $20 and a whole duck at $40.

The stall can attract a steady queue during the busier hours, and watching customers order, many seem to already know exactly which combination of duck, braised egg, tofu and innards they want.

Mee Rebus from Hani Food Stall at West Coast Market Square

Hani Food Stall at West Coast Market Square

Hani Food Stall
West Coast Market Square #01-178
Opening Hours: 7:30am – 2:30pm (Thurs – Sun), Closed Mon – Wed

Hani Food Stall has been part of West Coast Market Square since 1981, though its story goes back even further to the 1970s when the family first operated at Alexandra Terrace.

The second generation now continues the family recipes, serving familiar Malay staples such as Nasi Lemak ($5), Mee Soto, Soto Ayam ($3.70), Mee Rebus and Mee Siam.

The Mee Rebus comes covered with a generous amount of thick gravy, with egg, tau pok and fried shallots adding different textures to each spoonful.

The Mee Soto goes in a lighter direction, with shredded chicken and noodles in a clearer broth, accompanied by begedil and chilli.

Xin Xin Famous Fried Oyster at West Coast Market Square

Xin Xin Famous Fried Oyster 新新馳著蠔煎
West Coast Market Square #01-187
Opening Hours: 2pm – 9pm (Wed – Mon), Closed Tues

Xin Xin Famous Fried Oyster has reportedly been around for close to four decades, specialising mainly in the two dishes shown prominently across its signboard: Oyster Omelette and Fried Oyster.

And it remains priced very affordably from $3. Wow.

This is the familiar old-school orh luak style, where egg, starch and oysters hit the wok together to produce that contrast of browned edges, softer sticky sections and plump oysters.

Unlike many of the breakfast and lunch stalls in the food centre, Xin Xin only opens from 2pm, so keep this for a later visit if fried oyster is on your list.

Dry Ban Mee from Wang Jiao Handmade Noodle at West Coast Market Square

Wang Jiao Handmade Noodle at West Coast Market Square

Wang Jiao Handmade Noodle 旺角手工麵
West Coast Market Square #01-193
Opening Hours: 10:30am – 9pm (Mon – Sun)

The menu at Wang Jiao Handmade Noodle goes well beyond the standard bowl of Ban Mee, and some of the combinations are a little less commonly seen at neighbourhood handmade noodle stalls.

Apart from Ban Mee with Chicken or Pork ($4, $5), there are Sliced Fish U-Mee ($4.50, $5.50), Clam U-Mee ($5.30, $6.30), Fuzhou Fishball Ban Mee ($4.30, $5.30), Tom Yam Ban Mee ($4.50, $5.50) and Fermented Rice Residue Mee Sua ($4.50, $5.50).

The dry Ban Mee is tossed with sauce and chilli before being topped with minced meat, egg and a generous scattering of crisp ikan bilis, while Dumpling Noodles and Dumpling Soup give you a few more options if you are not in the mood for the usual Ban Mee combination.

Chef Gan HK Bakery at West Coast Market Square

Chef Gan H.K Bakery 顏師傅(香港)餅家
West Coast Market Square #01-151
Opening Hours: 5am – 8pm (Mon – Sun)

Chef Gan H.K Bakery feels slightly unexpected in the middle of a neighbourhood hawker centre, especially when its display is filled with rows of Hong Kong-style buns and pastries.

The selection includes Polo Buns, Egg Tarts, Coconut Tarts, Wife Biscuits and savoury pastries, alongside breads, muffins and other baked snacks.

It also opens particularly early at 5am, which explains why the stall works as much for breakfast as it does for picking up a few pastries to bring home later in the day.

Fried fish balls and fish cakes from Tiong Bahru Fried Fish Ball at West Coast Market Square

Tiong Bahru Fried Fish Ball at West Coast Market Square

Tiong Bahru Fried Fish Ball 中峇鲁炸魚圆
West Coast Market Square #01-141
Opening Hours: 8am – 6:30pm (Mon – Sun)

Tiong Bahru Fried Fish Ball is difficult to walk past without looking at the trays of golden fish balls, fish cakes and fried snacks lined across the counter.

Rather than ordering a fixed set, this is the kind of old-school stall where you simply choose whatever catches your eye, with Handmade Fish Cake, Fish Balls, Fried Wantons, Prawn Meat Balls, Otah and Fried Fish Balls among the selection.

Many of the smaller items are priced around $1 – $1.50, so it is easy to put together a mixed bag without spending very much. The only danger is probably finishing a few pieces before reaching home.

Soon Lee Fishball Noodle at West Coast Market Square

Soon Lee Fishball Noodle 顺利魚圆麵
West Coast Market Square #01-184
Opening Hours: 9am – 2pm (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri), 6:30am – 2pm (Wed), 7am – 8pm (Sat), 9am – 8pm (Sun)

Soon Lee Fishball Noodle keeps things simple with traditional Fishball Noodles priced at $3.50 and $4, available dry or in soup.

There are no elaborate toppings or oversized bowls here, just the familiar combination of noodles, fishballs and fishcake that has kept neighbourhood fishball noodle stalls going for generations.

There is also an interesting family connection next door, where Blue Dragonfly Minced Meat Noodle is run by the next generation of the family.

Wanton Noodles from Hup Heng Noodle House at West Coast Market Square

Hup Heng Noodle House at West Coast Market Square

Hup Heng Noodle House 合興麵家
West Coast Market Square #01-182
Opening Hours: 9am – 1:30pm, 5pm – 10pm (Tues – Sun), Closed Mon

Hup Heng Noodle House serves the familiar Cantonese noodle stall combination of Wanton Noodles, Chicken Feet Noodles, Dumpling Noodles and Dumpling Soup.

Its Wanton Mee comes in the wetter, more sauce-coated style, topped with char siew and greens with pickled green chillies on the side.

The same stall also sells Popiah, though the timing is quite specific. Popiah starts from 12pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and is not available on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, so it is worth taking note if that is what you are specifically coming for.

Congee from Yuan Wei Congee at West Coast Market Square Yuan Wei Congee at West Coast Market Square

Yuan Wei Congee 源味粥品
West Coast Market Square #01-143

Yuan Wei Congee has a surprisingly extensive menu for a stall built around porridge, with enough combinations that you do not necessarily have to order the same bowl every visit.

Options include Sliced Pork & Meatball Congee ($4.50), Mixed Pig’s Organ Congee ($5), Sliced Fish Congee ($5), Shredded Chicken & Peanut Congee ($4.50), Cuttlefish & Peanut Congee ($4.50), Sampan Congee ($5.50) and Three Eggs Congee ($4.50).

There is even a separate claypot section covering Gong Bao Chicken, Sliced Fish, Pork and Frog Leg. For the congee itself, fried dough fritters and fried shallots provide a welcome contrast against the smooth porridge.

Hup Seng Heng Vegetarian at West Coast Market Square

Hup Seng Heng Vegetarian 合成興素食
West Coast Market Square #01-195
Opening Hours: 11am – 9pm (Tues – Sun), Closed Mon

Hup Seng Heng Vegetarian has been around for more than two decades, with the business passing through the family over the years.

While you can certainly order vegetarian mixed rice here, the more extensive zichar menu makes the stall a little more interesting.

Vegetarian Claypot Bean Curd, Mushroom with Broccoli, Prawn Roll, Lemon Chicken, Sweet & Sour Pork, Curry Puff and Vegetarian Dumplings are among the choices, with several dishes modelled after familiar Chinese zichar favourites.

This gives diners more to choose from than simply pointing at a few dishes from the mixed rice display, especially if you are eating with a group and want several plates to share.

Western food from Paris Western Grill at West Coast Market Square

Paris Western Grill at West Coast Market Square

Paris Western Grill
West Coast Market Square #01-167
Opening Hours: 1pm – 9pm (Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat), Closed Wed, Thurs, Sun

Paris Western Grill still carries much of the old-school hawker Western food character many Singaporeans would recognise from growing up.

Chicken Chop, Chicken Cutlet, Pork Cutlet, Fish & Chips, Lamb Chop and Beef Steak make up the familiar selection, usually accompanied by fries and the expected Western stall sides.

There is also a fried rice section pairing rice with Chicken Wing ($6), Chicken Chop ($7), Lamb Chop ($8) and Beef Steak ($9).

The portions remain quite substantial, particularly when the plate arrives crowded with meat, fries, baked beans, coleslaw and a fried egg. Nothing overly elaborate, and old-school tasting.
