Stash Coffee at Kelantan Lane is not quite like your usual café, with most of the seating placed along the sheltered corridor outside.
As this is a pop-up café for now, Stash Coffee has a slightly DIY personality, from the scribbled chalkboard menu to little Polaroids pinned beside the drinks and those crow designs appearing everywhere.
The coffee menu is short: Black ($5), White ($6) and Secret Stash ($7), with an additional 50 cents for iced drinks.
They were using a Stash 02 single-origin coffee from Ayel Gobena in Uraga Guji, Ethiopia, processed as a slow-dried natural.
There are also non-coffee options such as Stash Lemonade ($6) and Black Milk ($7), plus Croissant ($6) and Cardamom Loaf ($7) if you want something to eat.
But obviously I had to find out what the Secret Stash ($7) was.
On the day I visited, it was an iced coffee made with Earl Grey-infused dairy milk, which sounded slightly peculiar at first but also interesting enough to order.
What I liked about the Secret Stash was that it did not taste like someone had simply poured Earl Grey syrup into coffee, but the owner took several hours to infuse the tea flavour within the milk.
The tea fragrance was delicate, beautifully coming through more towards the end, while the espresso still had enough presence.
I also ordered the Cardamom Loaf ($7), which looked almost like several croissant-like folds had been squashed together, with deeply browned edges and plenty of flaky layers pulling apart in the middle.
Quite a lot of personality for such a small coffee counter, and I hope it stays around longer than a pop-up.
