It has been quite a while since I last went to Timbre+ at one-north, and I did not expect my return visit to involve matcha.
The place still has that slightly different vibe and type of stalls from the usual hawker centre.
Bon Bon Matcha caught my attention because I remembered the brand from its small Haji Lane stall at North Bridge Road.
Founder Kanae Yagi, a Japanese native who previously operated Bon Bon Coffee at Taste Orchard (another sad story all together), established this concept to make Japanese green teas more casual and accessible.
Its matcha drinks are made with single-origin powders sourced from Japanese farmers, including Towa from Shizuoka and Wazakura from Mie.
The menu covers quite a bit for a small stall.
There are matcha drinks such as Iced Classic Matcha Latte ($4.90 / $6.90), Iced or Hot Whisked Matcha Latte ($5.90 / $7.90), Premium Matcha Latte with Seibon ($8.90 / $10.90), Homemade Strawberry Matcha Latte ($6.90 / $8.90), and Warabimochi Matcha Latte ($7.40 / $9.40).
One detail I liked was that they use “Kibizato”, a Japanese brown sugar from Okinawa, as a syrup for their matcha drinks and strawberry puree.
I tried the Homemade Strawberry Matcha Latte ($8.90), partly because strawberry matcha has become one of those drinks almost every matcha place needs to have now.
(Well, it is not cheap considering you can get a full hawker meal here for less than that.)
The drink came layered with strawberry puree at the bottom, milk in the middle and matcha on top, so yes, it looked good enough for the camera before mixing.
I would not say the matcha was very intense in this drink, but it was smooth and easy to finish, with enough matcha presence.
From the gelato display, I spotted flavours such as Hazakura Matcha Gelato, Pistachio Crunch, Strawberry Solero Sorbet, Chocolate Sea Salt Gula Melaka, Tahitian Vanilla, Taro, Salted Lychee Sorbet and Coconut Kaya Gelato. Maybe for the next visit.
