Oaks Coffee Roasters has opened along Bukit Timah Road (the part near Hwa Chong), taking over the space that was previously occupied by Flip Coffee Roasters (which moved to Stevens Road).
This is not Oaks’ first café either.
Some would know the brand from Oaks Coffee Co. at Upper Thomson Road, which started as Kinsmen Coffee back in 2013.
The name behind it is Jervis Tan, who won the 2025 Singapore National Barista Championship, and has also been a five-time National Latte Art Champion.
From the outside, the white frontage may be easy to miss, especially if you are driving past.
Inside, the space is narrow but calm, with grey walls, hanging lights, a few pale wood stump stools, and a small room at the back where you can see some of the coffee roasting happening.
For coffee, there are the usual Espresso ($4), Black ($5), White ($6) and Mocha ($6.50), served double shot.
You can also choose between espresso beans such as Cerrado NY2 from Brazil, with notes of caramel, hazelnuts and dark cocoa, or Gichichi AA from Kenya, which leans towards mixed berries and green apple.
I liked my White, which was smooth without being too heavy, carrying some of that chocolatey, nutty profile.
The signature drinks are more playful, such as Baan ($10), a mango sticky rice mocktail made with glutinous rice infusion, mango yoghurt and coconut cream; and Ember ($16), a clarified coffee with mixed berries and thyme compote.
Food-wise, the menu is compact.
There are toasties and simple savouries such as Tom Yum Tuna Toastie ($18.50), Bacon Pesto Meltz ($19.50), Smoked Salmon & Avocado Meltz ($23.50), Triple Mushroom Spinach Pesto Quiche ($14.50), and Granola Open Face Toast ($15.50).
For bakes, there are Banana Chocolate Cake ($9), Yaki Purin ($8), Signature Cheesecake ($14), Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie ($7), Butter Croissant ($5), and Pain Au Chocolat ($6).
I tried the Butter Croissant ($5), which was decent enough as a coffee companion. Flaky on the outside, light enough, but not something I would specially make a trip down for.
The Banana Chocolate Cake ($9) was more memorable for me. It had that dense, homely banana bread texture, with chocolate bits running through and enough sweetness to go with coffee.
If you are around Bukit Timah and want a decent coffee stop rather than another generic café, this is worth keeping in mind.
