You are not wrong if Niku Niku Oh!! Kome feels vaguely similar to Hikiniku To Come.

Both are centred around Japanese hamburg steak, hot plates, rice, sauces, and that small bit of theatre where the patty is cooked in front of you before you finish it off yourself.

The difference is that Hikiniku To Come feels more focused and premium (just a tad more), while Niku Niku Oh!! Kome comes across as the more casual and budget-friendly version.

Well, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Niku Niku Oh!! Kome has two outlets in Singapore (and I expect more to come), one at WEAVE in Resorts World Sentosa, and another at Westgate.

The outlets can get quite packed, which is understandable.

The menu is kept short and direct, with sets starting from the 2 Original Hamburg Steak ($16.80).

You can also pick and choose other combos like 1 Original and 1 Cheese Hamburg Steak ($18.80), 1 Original and 1 Creamy Tomato Sauce Hamburg Steak ($18.80), and 1 Original, 1 Cheese and 1 Creamy Tomato Sauce Hamburg Steak ($22.80).

Each set comes with rice, miso soup, broccoli, egg, and access to the sauces and seasonings.

The patties are served on a hot plate, so you can continue cooking them to your preferred doneness at the table.

The Cheese Hamburg Steak was probably the safer choice, with melted cheese over the beef patty.

Add some mustard, barbecue or Aurora Sauce (tomato + mayonnaise), and the flavour leans slightly towards a cheeseburger, just without the bun.

The Creamy Tomato Sauce Hamburg Steak was more interesting for me. It came with a creamy tomato sauce and chopped tomatoes over the patty, giving it a more yoshoku-style profile.

That said, the patty was not the juiciest or tastiest version I have had, but it was decent for the price.

The sauce station was probably the part I enjoyed more than expected. I liked the Spice Mum Chilli Sauce, which reminded me a little of PUTIEN-style chilli.

There is also free-flow rice, miso soup and broccoli, and I must say, I did appreciate having more cruciferous vegetables.

One thing to note though, the hot plates may not all retain heat in the same way.

Mine did not sizzle as much as my neighbour’s, so the hamburg steaks took longer to cook through. I gave feedback to the staff, but was told that “the hot plates were quite thick”. No further action was taken after that.

In the end, I had to use my friend’s hotter plate to finish cooking some of the pieces.

Niku Niku Oh!! Kome is not bad for its price point. I would say go for it if you are already at Westgate or Resorts World Sentosa, especially if the queue is manageable.
