Banthat Thong Road has firmly established itself as where many of Bangkok’s youth love to go.

Makes me feel young again, too.

Located right next to Chulalongkorn University, the street is a vibrant corridor of neon signs, long queues, and of course some of the most creative desserts in the city.

Ice Cream Samosorn Bangkok

Amongst the many spots fighting for attention, Ice Cream Samosorn ไอศกรีมสโมสร frequently appears on my Instagram feed due to its highly visual and interactive “Melting Sundae” concept.

The menu at Ice Cream Samosorn screams “decadence” and “sugar load”.

Their signature series includes the Uji Matcha Lava (THB 215), Kopi Tiramisu (THB 245), and the intense Crazy Chocolate (THB 215) which features a hot chocolate cake and Oreo crumble.

I focused my visit on the signature Banana Cream Brûlée (THB 245), which is perhaps their most famous item.

The serving process is what you need to pay attention to here. The dessert arrives at the table with a flat, hard caramelised sugar layer covering the top of the bowl, much like a usual crème brûlée.

The staff then place a large scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of this golden crust.

The objective is to use the spoon to break through the brittle sugar layer, allowing the ice cream to sink into a pool of warm banana custard and vanilla cream underneath.

Ah, a satisfying sensory experience that combines the crunch of the burnt sugar with the smooth, melting interior.

I thought the temperature contrast between the cold ice cream and the room-temperature cream was well-managed.

While the portion looked manageable, it was unapologetically rich and sweet.

I have to say I only managed one dish because the experience quickly led to a total sugar overload. It is definitely a dessert designed for sharing between two or three people rather than eating solo.

Ice Cream Samosorn stays open until at least midnight daily, if you are looking for a late-night sugar fix after a meal of spicy hotpot nearby.
