Ah…Havelock II. Despite its location near Chinatown, it is not the top-of-recall place when it comes to food.
There are actually a couple of humble eateries and cafes there, though the low foot traffic may need the hands change often too.
Pour.traits by Nooq Collective is one of those I spotted, occupying a corner unit of the ground floor.
Compared to the other more ‘unfussy’ eateries around here, it felt more deliberate in design.
Dark green counters, a long bar with stools, and a concept with coffee, artisanal teas, mocktails and desserts.
The espresso menu keeps things familiar, with Espresso of the Week ($4.50), Black ($5), White ($5.50), Piccolo ($5), Dirty ($6.50), Mocha ($8.50) and an Espresso Flight ($10).
I had the white and it was surprisingly good (I mean, for an unexpected spot).
The beans chosen were the Kenya Cianda Estate, and the honey and brown sugar notes added a soft sweetness that carried through the shot, and overall tasted really balanced.
Filter coffee options include Ethiopia Bona Black Honey ($9), Kenya Cianda Natural ($9) with notes of apricot, honey and brown sugar, Ecuador Juan Velez Natural ($10) with tropical fruit and red grape tones, and more.
Food stays secondary. Bakes and desserts include Classic Chocolate Cookie ($4.50), Banana Bread ($5.50), Focaccia with seaweed furikake and cheese ($6.50), Earl Grey Basque Cheesecake ($8.50), Waffle with Butter ($8.50), Affogato ($9.50), and Tiramisu ($12).
Pour.traits by Nooq Collective works best for those who already enjoy coffee, and maybe you want to make a trip to this building that you haven’t been to.
