JUMBO Premium 珍宝甄选 has opened at WEAVE, Resorts World Sentosa’s newly revamped dining enclave.
This marks the brand’s seventh outlet and the first with the “Premium” label.
You may ask, “So how premium is it?” and “Are the prices ‘premium’ too?”
The name suggests refinement and exclusivity, but at heart this still feels like JUMBO, which is familiar, approachable and tourist-friendly.
The difference lies in its more polished surroundings.
The space is more refined than other outlets, with wood panelling, high ceilings and softer lighting, while two VIP rooms and a retail corner add a touch of polish.
Still, I thought that the feel was not as far removed from a standard seafood restaurant as you might expect from something branded “Premium”.
The menu is split between dim sum in the day and JUMBO’s signature seafood dishes throughout.
Dim sum items like Red Ruby Dumplings with mushroom and truffle, Pan Fried Iberico Pork Buns, and Scallop Wrapped in Yam are exclusive to this outlet, giving diners something new to try.
I ordered the Scallop Wrapped in Yam ($28), which turned out neatly done with a crisp yam exterior and tender scallop inside.
The textures worked well together without being greasy.
The Chilli Crab was exactly what you would expect from JUMBO — glossy, sweet (sweeter than some other brands), tangy, and best enjoyed with mantou.
Good, but very much the same as other outlets.
The Mee Goreng was hearty and comforting, with generous prawns and squid, though it did not push beyond the familiar flavour profile.
Service was professional but not remarkable, and on my visit it felt more like a casual seafood restaurant than a upmarket concept.
You could tell some of the staff were stretched, so the attentiveness was less than you might have wished.
That said, the team knew the menu well and explained the distinction between the exclusive dim sum and the regular à la carte signatures.
If you are already at Resorts World Sentosa and in the mood for familiar seafood in a slightly more polished space, this could fit the bill.
But if you walk in expecting something that feels dramatically elevated, you may leave wondering if the “Premium” tag was more about location than transformation.
