[BALI] Seminyak’s café scene can feel like a carousel of smoothie bowls and smashed avo, but BAKED. manages to stay firmly at the top of the ride.
This modern bakery-café has built a loyal following since first opening in Canggu, with branches now in Uluwatu and Seminyak.
The Seminyak Village location, calm and sunlit, feels effortlessly confident.
And of course very convenient. (Right across another popular brunch cafe Sisterfields.)
This branch is airy and clean-lined, with soft sunlight, blond wood, fresh bread on display, and a good selection of (tempting) merchandise.
If you are heading for breakfast, it starts from 7am with pretty wide options.
They include The Original Best Scramble (IDR 85K) with BAKED. sourdough, brown butter, crème fraîche, trout roe and chives, Egg Sesame Brioche (IDR 80K) layered with folded eggs and brown sauce, and Tortilla de Patatas (IDR 95K) with cheddar and roasted garlic aioli.
Naturally, curiosity got the better of me, and I went straight for The Original Best Scramble (IDR 85K).
The dish arrived looking the part: a smooth heap of scrambled eggs on BAKED. sourdough, with brown butter, crème fraîche, trout roe, and chives.
Taste-wise, though, the scramble didn’t quite live up to its name.
The eggs were too runny for my liking, almost tipping into watery, and the crème fraîche didn’t add much body.
The flavour was mild, even bland, lacking a certain richness that might have tied it all together.
My dining luck turned with the Benny (IDR 90K), BAKED.’s take on eggs benedict.
Instead of the usual English muffin, this came on sourdough, layered with wilted kale, crispy bacon, and a gochujang hollandaise that delivered just the right level of heat.
Sweet plates feature Cardamom Granola with Strawberry (IDR 75K), Sourdough Pancakes (IDR 90K) with maple syrup and bacon, and Korean Honey Toast (IDR 85K) topped with mascarpone, honeycomb and elderflower.
Feeling the need for something sweet (and to recover from too much egg), I went for the Korean Honey Toast (IDR 85K), a thick brioche with mascarpone, honeycomb, and elderflower.
The plating was beautiful, the toast golden and crisp at the edges, soft in the centre, and lightly caramelised.
The pastry counter is lined with favourites such as the Butter Croissant (IDR 30K), Almond Croissant (IDR 45K), Kouign Amann (IDR 45K) and Meat Pie (IDR 70K).
Before leaving, I couldn’t resist grabbing a Butter Croissant (IDR 30K) from the counter.
Flaky, fragrant, and well layered, it easily rivalled some of Bali’s more hyped bakeries.
BAKED. might not have nailed the “best scramble” for me, but it certainly made up for it elsewhere.
And yes, the coffee is good too.
