Kim Dae Mun Korean Food, one of Orchard Road’s most beloved and affordable Korean eateries, has announced that it will be closing permanently.
According to their official statement, the last day of operations will be 30 November 2025 at Concorde Shopping Mall.
This closure marks the end of an era for regulars who have long considered Kim Dae Mun a dependable spot for hearty Korean fare that did not come with the usual Orchard Road price tag.
Dining in town is often thought of as expensive, and while that is mostly true, Kim Dae Mun stood out as a place that proved otherwise.
Queues were a familiar sight during lunch and dinner, with diners patiently waiting along the corridor just to get their fix.
The restaurant name, “Kim Dae Mun” alluded to Seoul’s famous Dongdaemun, but also carried the family name of its owner.
Entirely run by Koreans, the eatery gained a loyal following because of its authenticity.
The dining style was simple and no-frills. Diners ordered and paid upfront, collected their food themselves, and settled down in a casual, bustling space.
For every order, a side dish was included, whether it was kimchi, pickled cucumbers, or anchovies.
Popular dishes included the Tender Sliced Beef ($11.50) served on a hot plate, a large portion of thinly cut beef stir-fried with onions and leafy greens.
Spicy Pork and Spicy Shredded Chicken were also crowd favourites, both slightly salty but perfect with rice and soup.
Comfort seekers often went for a sizzling bowl of Ramyeon at just $6.50, or the bubbling Kimchi Soup packed with ingredients.
Side dishes such as Fried Dumplings and Korean Rice Cakes were affordable add-ons that completed the meal.
The appeal of Kim Dae Mun was never about being a polished restaurant.
It was about offering good, honest food that was better than typical food court fare, and doing so at prices that made dining out in Orchard Road guilt-free.
Many regulars would testify that the money spent here could get you not just one dish but a main, a side, and a drink without the feeling of overspending.
With its upcoming closure, many will remember Kim Dae Mun not just for its food but for being one of the rare places in the heart of Orchard that kept meals both comforting and affordable.
For fans, there are still a few weeks left to enjoy your favourite Korean dishes before the shutters come down for good. Kim Dae Mun Korean Food will serve its final meal on 30 November 2025.
