[BALI] Hidden behind a façade of vines and overgrowth, the bakery café feels like you are stepping into a garden cave where time slows down.
Some cafés in Seminyak try to dazzle with neon signs or sleek interiors, but Bread Yard does it differently.
The outside is almost unassuming, though the possible queue and shelves of bread visible through the glass give a clue to what awaits.
Step in, and the earthy walls curve softly around you, broken up by plants that spill from ledges and even a tree that grows straight through one corner.
Yup, that instagrammable spot where many want to take a photo in front of.
Wooden tables, gravel underfoot, and skylights above give the place an organic, courtyard-like feel.
The pastry and cake counter was hard to resist.
It was stacked with Plain Croissants (IDR 35K), Almond Croissants (IDR 45K), Lemon Meringue Tarts (IDR 75K), Tri-Cheese Croissants (IDR 55K), Biscoff Pave (IDR 75K), Strawberry Choco Cake (IDR 65K), Basque Cheesecake (IDR 55K), and even Pistachio Tiramisu (IDR 90K).
I tried the Pistachio Croissant (IDR 55K), which was stuffed generously with cream and sprinkled with pistachio and cheese.
Would have personally preferred it to be more crispy or buttery. Still, for croissant fans, it does the job and looks good on the table.
For heartier meals, the menu stretches wide, with Wagyu Rib Eye MB-5 Sando (IDR 285K), Crispy Pork Belly (IDR 185K), Pulled Pork Sando (IDR 140K), Tarragon Butter Prawn Spaghetti (IDR 185K), and a Yard Smash Burger with caramelised onion and BBQ sauce (IDR 155K).
It is ambitious, mixing European bakery traditions with comfort food mains that could anchor a proper lunch or dinner.
The Fried Chicken & Waffles (IDR 94K), however, left me less convinced.
The fried chicken was crisp, yes, but the seasoning felt one-note and the waffle beneath was more chewy than fluffy.
Not a disaster by any means, but not quite the punchy sweet-savoury balance I was hoping for.
Bread Yard clearly pulls people in for more than the food.
Even though it was too crowded for my liking, I still liked the vibes.
The space feels different from the polished cafés around Seminyak, almost like you are tucked away in someone’s lush backyard, which makes sense given its name.
