[BALI] Seminyak’s café scene is crowded with names trying to outdo one another, but 831 Coffee Club has taken a slightly different path.
It focuses on focaccia sandwiches. Interesting.
If you are walking down Petitenget, it looks almost like a neat little villa with its cream walls, terracotta roof, and tidy plants framing the entrance at first glance.
Walking in, I loved the deep green touches. The vibe is more relaxed compared to some of Seminyak’s louder, flashier cafés.
A wide green tiled counter stretches across the room.
Behind the glass, some croissants and cakes are displayed in neat rows, just slightly tempting (as the range was not too wide).
The menu is broad, offering a range of appetisers, salads, plates to share, but focaccia sandwiches are the star of the menu.
Options include Luna with kale, mushroom and caramelised onion (IDR 65K), Sam with maple-glazed bacon and scrambled eggs (IDR 85K), Mario with mozzarella cheese and truffle mayo (IDR 85K), and Jimmy with a dry-aged beef patty, glazed bacon and hot ranch sauce (IDR 99K).
I tried the Bob Crispy Chicken Thigh Focaccia (IDR 75K), which arrived generously portioned with layers of chicken, tomato, rocket, and aioli.
Taking that first, the bread was easily the highlight, golden on the outside with a fluffy interior that had the right chewiness. It was a joy to eat.
The chicken, while lightly crispy, could have used a deeper marinade. The seasoning did not quite penetrate the meat, leaving it feeling a little flat compared to the bread holding it together.
It could also have been served warmer.
On the sweet side, the desserts lean classic with options like New York cheesecake, chocolate cake, and banana split.
Coffee, naturally, holds its own here. The beans are roasted to highlight smooth, balanced flavours rather than anything too experimental.
831 Coffee Club feels like a café built more for ease than show.
It is a place you might wander into by chance and find yourself having focaccia and staying longer than expected.
