[BALI] Sisterfields is one of those names that comes up again and again when people talk about brunch in Bali.
In fact, when I was searching for “best cafes in Bali”, this is the one name that keeps popping up.
Located conveniently in the heart of Seminyak on Jalan Kayu Cendana (opposite Seminyak Village), it has built a reputation as the “Australian café experience” brought to Bali.
The pioneer of sorts.
This place has been open for years and still pulls a steady crowd, a sign that it has managed to stay relevant in an island full of new openings.
The crowd was mainly a mix of tourists and expats, and the energy was buzzing.
Staff were warm, efficient, and helpful with recommendations. Even when the café was full, they managed to keep things moving without making anyone feel rushed.
The menu reads like a greatest-hits list of brunch favourites.
Dishes include Full Breaky with eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomato and sourdough (IDR 140K), Ham and Double Cheese Toastie with truffle aioli (IDR 110K), Original Dirty Burger with pickled onion rings and fries (IDR 130K), and Bombay Fried Chicken Burger with curry mayo and lettuce (IDR 130K).
For something more substantial there is Short Rib Rigatoni (IDR 150K), Smoked Ham Hock Gnocchi (IDR 150K), and a Mexican Chicken Salad (IDR 150K).
Just to name a few.
The Smashed Avocado with za’atar spiced cashew, feta, herbs and sourdough (IDR 100K) is the classic order here.
I liked the sourdough base which stayed crisp under the toppings, but it was overall too safe and underwhelming for me. Perhaps I was expecting more, like creamier avocado or something.
The Truffle Scrambled Eggs with Persian feta, crispy potato and sourdough (IDR 140K) seems highly recommended on Google reviews.
While it looked pretty, the eggs weren’t as creamy as expected. The truffle flavour was noticeable but not overpowering. I wondered if it was because I visited the ‘wrong’ day on a crowded weekend.
Making a return visit, the Breakfast Sandwich with Hawaiian roll, bacon, fried egg, smoked cheddar and chipotle sauce (IDR 90K) was much better.
Built on a Hawaiian roll, it looked closer to a small burger.
The bun’s slight sweetness offset the savoury fillings inside. This time, every component worked, from the crisp bacon, fried egg, to smoky cheddar.
The chipotle sauce finished it off with spice and tang. Flavour-wise, this scored.
I left satisfied though not surprised.
Sisterfields delivers classic brunch food that is reliable, approachable, and familiar, and it largely succeeds, and sometimes that is exactly what you want.
If I go back, I will probably try something less safe on the menu.
