I have the feeling this Sundubu Jjigae restaurant will pack in the crowds soon.
Kong Madam 콩마담 at Guoco Midtown II (Tan Quee Lan side) is a Soontofu specialty restaurant, created under the vision of Kang Ho Dong.
He is a well-known South Korean television personality and restaurateur whose Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong barbecue houses are recognised internationally.
I remember dining at his 678 Korean BBQ restaurant before.

The restaurant at Bugis describes itself as serving “traditional Gangneung-style tofu”, made in-house from Korean beans and mineral-rich seawater.
The style here is modern yet almost zen-like compared to rowdier Korean eateries.
Warm wood panelling, clean tables, and glowing red-toned lighting give the dining room a composed atmosphere. Booth seating lines the sides, while communal tables stretch across the middle.
To give a snapshot: main tofu stew choices include Seafood Soontofu ($21.90), Plant Soontofu ($21.90), Perilla Soontofu ($21.90), Seaweed Soontofu ($21.90), Budae Pot Soontofu ($23.90), Beef Soontofu ($23.90), Pork Soontofu ($23.90), and Assorted Soontofu ($23.90).
Slightly on the pricier side, I thought, but it was quite a full spread.
The presentation of food matches the setting. The stews arrive in stone pots set on trays, with small bowls of side dishes like kimchi, beansprouts, quail eggs, and even a small fried fish.
The Seafood Soontofu combo I had arrived bubbling away, filled with clams, prawns, and crab, topped with a raw egg.
The tofu was not the usual style, not the typically silken style, but more earthy-beany tasting.
I liked that it was soaking up the seafood sweetness and the spice from the flavourful broth.
If you like army stew, consider the Budae Soontofu ($23.90).
It came packed with spam, sausages, and pepperoni, salty, slightly sweet, and unapologetically rich. This leaned into comfort food territory.
The menu also spreads into charcoal-grilled meats including LA galbi short ribs, bulgogi, pork ribs, spicy squid, and even grilled unagi. Clearly a nod to Kang Ho Dong’s barbecue pedigree.
The pork belly served on the side was smoky and coated in a spicy-savoury sauce that demanded a spoonful of stonepot rice with every bite.
The tofu is genuinely well made, and the stews deliver comfort in different styles.
