Step inside Cafe 107 and you’ll find more than your typical neighbourhood kopitiam.
Since opening its doors in 2007, Cafe 107 has set itself apart by running its own stalls, keeping quality high and variety wide.
Here, you can start with a plate of smoky roast meats, dive into steaming bowls of handmade noodles, and enjoy restaurant-style seafood.
The word “Cafe” in the name hints at the broader menu you will find here.
Alongside kopitiam favourites and zi char, Cafe 107 serves up Western mains and sweet treats you might expect in a modern cafe, like chicken chop, fish and chips, fluffy waffles, and creamy gelato.
Here’s more from Cafe 107:
The Queen’s Grill
Hearty, Affordable Western Mains with Generous Portions
The Queen’s Grill specialises in hearty Western classics done with an honest, local touch. It draws in regulars with generous portions, fair prices, and flavours that speak for themselves.
All main and upsized meals come with two standard side dishes, making it more value-for-money.
Choices include Grill Chicken ($7.90), Grill Pork ($7.90), Grill Salmon with onion cream sauce ($9.90), Grill Dory ($8.90), Queen Ribeye Steak with compound herb butter ($15.90), Chicken Cutlet with Mango Mayo ($9), and Tiger Fish & Chips with homemade tartar sauce ($10).
The Grill Chicken is its most popular main. The chicken comes with a nice char on the skin, juicy on the inside, accompanied with black pepper sauce.
Tiger Fish & Chips? Yes, the Pacific dory fillet comes wrapped in a batter made with Tiger Beer.
The result is a golden, crisp crust that stays light and crunchy. The fish inside is flaky and soft, and it manages to avoid the dreaded soggy bottom. I appreciated the homemade tartar sauce, which brought in some welcome acidity and brightness.
The food here is substantial and satisfying. If you need more, you can always order an upsized main at $2.50 extra. A double chop, anyone?
881 Live Seafood 许路儿
Value Seafood Feasts and Local Zi Char Favourites
881 Live Seafood at Café 107 offers restaurant-style seafood and zi char fare at neighbourhood coffee prices that focuses on freshness and execution.
Seafood dishes are really affordable. If you are in the mood for crab, there is a current promotion at $22 for one, $39 for two, and $50 for three crabs.
That is really a value deal. The crabs are cooked fresh in styles of your choice, from chilli, salted egg, steamed, to bee hoon crab.
The recommended option is the black pepper crab, which arrives coated in a glossy, peppery sauce. Cracking into the shell reveals soft, sweet crab meat that soaks up the heat and fragrance of the black pepper.
Also, don’t miss the Garlic Steamed Lobster, which arrives as a real centrepiece. The lobster is steamed just right, keeping the meat tender and naturally sweet.
My favourite part is the minced garlic covering the shell and flesh, adding both aroma and a hit of savoury depth.
Other 881 highlights include Ginger Kampung Chicken, Garlic Steam Prawns, HK Style Steamed Soon Hock, Oysters, Salted Egg Prawn Ball, and Stewed Broccoli with Mushrooms.
Hong Hu Ramen 红虎中华拉面
Best Value La Mian, Guo Tie, and More
Hong Hu Ramen serves up Chinese-style hand-pulled noodles, dumplings and more.
Get your fill with Big Prawn Ban Mian ($6), Zha Jiang Mian ($5.50), Handmade Mee Hoon Kuay ($4.50), Koka Noodles ($4.50), Hot & Spicy Beef Noodles ($6.50), and Tom Yum Ban Mian ($5.50).
The Zha Jiang Mian ($5.50) here features tossed you mian dressed in a savoury minced meat sauce, finished with crisp cucumber shreds on top.
The minced pork has a soft texture and rich meaty flavour, with a subtle sweetness that balances the dish. The noodles are springy and firm, and they carry the sauce evenly through each bite.
I suggest pairing your noodles with a side of Hong Hu Dumplings ($6), Crispy Fried Dumpling ($4.50 for six, $7 for ten), or Guo Tie ($8 for ten, $11 for fifteen).
The pan-fried guo tie arrives with one side golden and crispy, the other soft and chewy. The filling is well seasoned, with enough juiciness to keep you coming back for more.
Man Xiang Traditional Roast 满香传统烧腊
Smoky Roast Duck, Roasted Chicken, Char Siew, and Siew Bak
Man Xiang Traditional Roast in Café 107 specialises in traditional roast meats, serving favourites like roasted duck breast, char siew, and siew bak.
A Roasted Duck Rice plate with sauce starts from $4.50, complete with glossy and slightly crisp skin, moist and flavourful meat.
The 3 Treasure Platter ($16.80) at Man Xiang is a crowd-pleaser for anyone who wants a taste of all the favourites.
The platter comes with a spread of roast duck, char siew, and roasted pork, each with its own character on the plate.
The char siew is cut into thick slices with caramelised edges and just the right amount of fat, giving every bite a sweet, smoky finish. The roasted pork, or siew bak, offers that essential crunch with its golden crackling.
Great for family meals or when you want a bit of everything.
Fuwa
Gelato and Sorbet from $3, Waffles from $5
Fuwa brings a splash of pink and plenty of cheer to Café 107 with its colourful line-up of gelato, waffles, and sorbets.
You can have your ice cream in a cone, cup, or even sandwiched in bread, with prices at $3 for a single scoop or $5 for a double.
Flavours range from classics like chocolate, cookies and cream, strawberry, and Belgian chocolate to more adventurous picks such as seasalt caramel, blueberry yoghurt, honey lavender, and chocolate mint.
Waffles come out hot and fluffy, served with a scoop of your favourite flavour and finished with whipped cream, chocolate, or maple syrup.
A waffle with one scoop is $5, while two scoops set you back $7. Premium flavours are available for an extra $1, and you can customise your treat with a range of dry toppings or fresh fruits.
With the weather so hot, Fuwa is the spot for a quick pick-me-up or a sweet finish after any meal at Serangoon North.
Other than the usual kopi, teh, and toast, you can also try something different at Cafe 107.
The drinks menu goes beyond tradition and offers playful choices. The Sea Salt Coffee and Sea Salt Tea add an interesting touch, so creamy and refreshing too.
If you are in the mood for something trendy, the Grass Jelly Coffee and Grass Jelly Tea or Bubble Coffee and Bubble Tea are also available, bringing a dose of sweetness and those familiar chewy pearls.
It is little surprises like these that make Cafe 107 more than just a kopitiam. It is a spot where you can come for your usual, or discover a new favourite you did not expect.
