Matcha, matcha everywhere. At least, that’s how it feels in Singapore lately.
For some, it’s an Instagram thing. For others, it’s a genuine taste obsession.
I have to admit, I’m one of the curious ones. That’s what drew me to KYŌ KOHEE at Labrador Tower, which is not the usual place you would head to unless you work nearby at Pasir Panjang.
KYŌ KOHEE started as a humble shop, then slowly expanded into several locations across Singapore including 112 Robinson Road and Asia Square Tower 1.
Stepping inside the Labrador Tower outlet, the space has this stronger sense of calmness, more than their other CBD outlets (which can be quite hurried).
The menu at KYŌ KOHEE Labrador Tower is a playground for matcha lovers.
You’ll spot Iced Ichigo Matcha Latte ($10.90), Honey Yuzu Soda Matcha ($10.90), and the quirky Banana Pudding Matcha ($8.90), alongside more classic favourites like Hojicha Latte ($7.90) and Royal Milk Tea ($6.90).
Straight matcha choices include Yabukita ($9.90) and Nishio ($6.90), both available as lattes (Yabukita $10.90, Nishio $7.90).
While I usually have their classic Matcha Latte, this time I decided to go for the Banana Matcha Pudding ($8.90), which turned out to be almost like a dessert in itself.
The drink came with a thick layer of matcha cream on top, smooth banana pudding underneath, and further topped with biscoff crumbs.
While I imagined it to be heavy, thankfully the drink was not overly sweet, which lets the delicate flavours of both matcha and banana stand out.
If I’m being completely honest, the drinks here cost more than what you might find at a regular chain.
This café won’t wow every taste. If you prefer strong flavours or more budget picks, you may not be impressed.
However, the drinks live up to the quiet elegance: the KYŌ Coffee is pleasantly smooth, the matcha latte refined and balanced.
The drinks cost a bit more than average, but quality seems to justify it, especially if you’re after a clean, well-crafted experience.
