Song Wat Road in Bangkok is the IN lane to visit.

It is a riverside corridor of shops and alleys that once thrived on spice and rice trade, which stretches just over one kilometre alongside the Chao Phraya River.

Today, you can find vintage Sino‑Portuguese shophouses, unexpected murals and new‑wave cafés breathing fresh life into this old-meets-new street.

Terroir BKK has a pretty good location, almost right smack in the centre.

If you don’t mind the heat, sit outside and do some people-watching (though you may be captured in a dozen Instagram photos).

When I first walked in, the whole space felt raw but intentional, more like a creative studio or a pop-up. Not like your typical neighbourhood café.

The stripped-back aesthetic continues with bare concrete walls, exposed beams and minimal decoration.

The furniture is sparse, think metal stools, simple tables, and a couple of retro armchairs that seem half-accidentally stylish.

The menu changes often based on which beans are featured that week. Staff are happy to chat about origins and flavours if you are curious.

Coffee options at Terroir BKK include a variety of hot and iced lattes such as the Everyday BKK (THB 80), Terroir Special (THB 105), and Ice Panama Latte (THB 155).

Americano lovers can pick from Ethiopia Washed / Honey (THB 80), Thailand Pangkhon (THB 90), Ethiopia Huro (THB 105), and Terroir Black Special (THB 135).

On my visit, I tried the Terroir Special (THB 105) which turned out to be one of the best coffees I had this particular trip.

Underneath the soft foam, you could really taste the gentle notes of blueberry and strawberry chocolate. It struck that balance between feeling indulgent and still staying bright.

The Ethiopia Washed Americano (THB 80) stayed lively, with notes of honey and apricot floating above a zing of lemony acidity.

The flavours felt clear and honest, with a finish as crisp as the first breeze on a hot Bangkok afternoon (though the roast was on the light side, and some may prefer a darker roast).

Terroir BKK fits Song Wat so well.

The street outside still feels gritty, with old shop houses and flashes of street art, but the area is getting a revival.

The café slides perfectly into this mood, a place for people who want a pause, personality and good coffee.
