Is this a case of “Makan Places: Lost and Found”?

Heng Kee Hainanese Curry Rice, which used to be at Hoy Fatt Road, has set up shop at ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre.

It’s the same no-frills, straight-to-the-point experience, run by the same uncle who somehow manages to do everything himself.

He takes your order, chops up the meat, scoops the rice, and drenches everything in curry—all at lightning speed.

The payment system is DIY—drop your money into the tray, or do a PayNow.

No fuss, no unnecessary chit-chat, just fast and efficient service.

The display at Heng Kee Hainanese Curry Rice is packed with a variety of dishes, all ready to be drenched in curry.

You can get 1 Rice 1 Veg ($2.00) or upgrade to 1 Rice 1 Meat ($3.00).

If you’re hungrier, 1 Rice 2 Veg ($3.00), 1 Rice 2 Meat ($4.00), or the biggest combo, 2 Veg 2 Meat ($5.50), are more filling options.

Prices are straightforward, and portions are generous.

There’s crispy pork chop, thick pork patties, fried eggs, omelettes, braised eggplant, stir-fried long beans, chilli-topped fish, battered fried balls, and soft stewed cabbage.

Everything looks rich, saucy, and full of flavour.

The pork chop is the crispy and drier type, deep-fried till golden and almost crunchy, and cut into small strips, making it easy to eat.

I loved the pork patty. It’s thick, juicy, soft on the inside, and packed with flavour. It almost looks like a homemade meatball, just bigger.

Every bite is tender, slightly sweet, and pairs well with the curry.

The curry is thick, has a particular spice (that may remind some of Indian style of curries), and absolutely doused over everything.

If you don’t like your rice drowning in gravy, you might need to tell uncle in advance. Otherwise, be prepared for a proper Hainanese-style, saucy mess (the best kind).

One thing I noticed is that uncle sometimes throws in extras. I got some small pieces of tau kwa in my meal, and I’ve seen others mention getting surprise ingredients too.

It’s little touches like this that make the meal feel even more worth it.
