Leong Wei Roasted Delight, located at Holland Drive Market & Food Centre, is the go-to-place for a budget-friendly meal and tasty roasts.
Run by the diligent Mr Lu Weiliang and his wife Huang Meifeng, this humble stall has become a cherished spot for many, particularly due to its affordability and consistency in quality over the years.
Needless to say, the line remains long during peak hours.
Having started in the 1980s, the stall first opened in Hougang before moving to its current location.
Throughout its years of service, the owners have resisted price hikes, maintaining incredibly low prices – Char Siew and Roast Pork Rice are sold for just $2, despite rising costs and economic pressures.
The Roast Duck and Lor Duck Rice is priced from $3.
The Roast Duck and Char siew (barbecued pork) remains the most popular.
While you may think there may be some compromise in quality due to the pricing, the char siew is tender and juicy, with a sweet and savory glaze that boasts a slight hint of smokiness.
The roast pork, on the other hand, features a crispy, crackling skin that contrasts with the flavourful meat underneath.
I also liked the bed of fluffy, slightly oily, fragrant rice with just the right amount of bite.
And ohhhhh… a drizzle of the rich, savoury sauce completes the plate.
Leong Wei Roasted Delight also offers a rotating selection of nourishing Double-Boiled Soups ($3).
Each soup is simmered a variety of ingredients, such as pork ribs, duck wings, lotus root, and vegetables, for hours to extract their full flavours and health benefits.
Despite its popularity, which often results in long queues, the stall operates on simple principles, focusing on quality and affordability rather than expansion or franchising.
Oh yah, while the official closing hours are 7pm, they are in operations till sold out, sometimes right after lunch.
