[SEOUL] Take the old-school aesthetic of Hanok (traditional Korean house), then mash it up with modern cafe vibe.

What you get is that cosy setting of Fritz Coffee Company at its Wonsu 원서 branch.

I last visited Fritz Coffee Company 프릳츠커피컴퍼니 at Dohwa, and it remains as one of the key places to visit in Seoul for good coffee.

When it comes to quality coffee and bakery items, you can count on Fritz Coffee Company to deliver.

Over at the Wonsu outlet, you create a little escape from the city whirlwinds and just relax, sip coffee in style.

What’s nice with its location is that it’s accessible and walkable, but yet it is not part of the more crowded side of Bukchon Hanok Village 북촌한옥마을.

You can even plan it as part of your walking tour of the city.

You can reach it via Seoul Metro Line 3 then drop off at Anguk Station.

As you exit, walk toward Yulgok-ro. Just look for a traditional Hanok along this street – you’ll find the cafe within Arario Museum in Space.

What to try here?

Like other locations, Wonsu has baked items though there are fewer items here. If you have a chance, try their hollow bread which is quite popular.

Glancing over the pastry case you’ll find Cinnamon Rolls, Pain Au Nutella (5,200 Won), flaky Croissants, Sausage Pastry (4,800 Won), Cream Doughnuts and more.

The Cream Doughnuts (3,500 Won) come in plain, raspberry and chocolate, or a set of 4 (15,000 Won).

I had the Pain Au Nutella (5,200 Won) because it sounded too good to not have.

This pastry marries the classic flaky, buttery layers with a generous swirl of rich Nutella, offering a decadent chocolate-hazelnut flavour.

What I also liked was the crusty layer on the outside.

Fritz Coffee Company has a reputation for serving top-quality brews.

I recommend you check out a distinctly flavoured blend only found in the Wonsu branch which is the “Arario Museum Blend”.

If you lean towards smooth, nutty-flavoured coffees, try “Old Dog”. It lacks the acidity which makes it rich in body and bold in flavour.

Tip: For hardcore java geeks, their tasting notes will help you pick.

The setting itself is a bonus if you are the type who enjoy traditional architecture.

Go ahead and steep yourself in Korean history as you sip a cup of coffee with your choice of pairing. Enjoy.
