[SEOUL] You may chance upon this huge black bowtie with a storybook setting at 무니카페 (Mooni Cafe), found at the hip Apgujeong 압구정 area.

Spelt as “Ppanideu M Muni” 빠니드엠무니 on Naver, it has revamped itself with a fairy tale concept, unlike the “pink café” status it previously had.

The nearest subway station to 빠니드엠무니 is Apgujeong Rodeo Station on the Bundang Line (Yellow Line).

After exiting the station on Exit 5, you can walk to the cafe, which should take about 8 to 10 minutes.

This bakery cafe, with its distinctively vintage French charm, offers an eclectic mix of cosy and whimsical spaces spread across its floors.

It was almost like walking into a story book, and you would find several ‘photo zones’ scattered across its space.

Each area, from the wood-furnished interiors to the light-filled greenhouse-like nook on the third floor, exudes its own unique vibe, making every corner a new discovery.

The rooftop terrace, adorned with the cafe’s signature black ribbon, provides a chic backdrop for those Instagram-worthy moments.

They offer quite a number of pretty pastries from Truffle Croissant, Caramel Cream Moon Croissant, Sausage Croissant, Pain au Chocolat, Focaccia, to Brownie Crown.

However, a basic Croissant starts from 5,000 Won, pricier than the average café around Seoul.

I was most enticed by the Ribbon Croissants presented in a bow-shape, in flavours of chocolate, strawberry and green tea.

Taste wise, it was surprisingly decent.

The outer layer of the Chocolate Ribbon Croissant was buttery and flaky enough, covering milky flavours of chocolate within.

As for the Truffle Croissant (6,300 Won), this had a light truffle aroma and flavour, complementing the buttery croissant.

Not bad, but I thought the flavours and truffle fragrance could have been more pronounced.

Now, look how pretty this cake is.

A standout dessert would the Rose Cake that combines the visual appeal of a carefully crafted roses on a white cake, with indulgent taste of red velvet and cream cheese.

The café’s design and menu are a thoughtful curation of aesthetics, with pastries and cakes that seem to leap out of a storybook, complementing the whimsical décor.

Makes you feel like a child once again.
