Just when you thought that Holland Village cannot get any more crowded with cafes, here’s a ‘hidden gem’.

Where?

Tucked away on the fourth floor of Holland Village Shopping Centre (that same building with the Cold Storage), Frankie & Fern’s offers a retreat from the bustling streets below with its home-like setting.

Finding it requires a bit of a treasure hunt.

Head to between the UOB bank and a money changer to catch an elevator that will head up to Level 4.

Then the doors will open up to an unexpectedly serene space (provided it is not too crowded yet).

The cafe, a venture from the creators of East Coast Commune, lives up to its vibe.

The ambiance strikes a balance between spaciousness and coziness, filled with natural light that complements its homely décor.

It is designed to make you feel like you are visiting the home of good friends.

Offering brunch until 4pm, their selection ranges from hearty options, open toast sandwiches, mains, sharing plates and bakes.

This includes the Frankie’s Breakfast ($26), a lavish platter of scrambled eggs, kale, bacon, and more; to vegetarian delights such as the Veggie Brekkie ($26) which includes a similar assortment with vegetarian substitutes.

My personal experience with the Veggie Brekkie ($26) was good, with the juicy portobello mushroom and well-toasted sourdough.

Though the wish for creamier scrambled eggs lingered.

I was told the open toasts such as the Fern’s Avocado Toast ($19) and Portobello Toast ($18) are popular.

However, if you do need to choose, get the Roasted Short Rib Toast ($22) which is generally sold-out earlier.

This well-presented dish had tender beef slices, which married ingredients like provolone, Russian dressing, and chimichurri for those extra flavours.

The menu features a variety of dishes designed for sharing, such as Duck Croquettes ($13), Truffle Fries ($12), Potato Mille Feuille ($13) and Roasted Carrots ($12).

For those who lean towards plant-based options, there are the Sourdough and Almond Hummus ($14) and the Sunchoke Soup ($14)

The bakery section offers a selection ranging from the classic Croissant and Pain Au Chocolat to Kouign Amann, Lemon Lime Drizzle, Banana Walnut Loaf, and Homemade Cookie.

Pricing range from $4 to $6 each, though I think they can afford to expand this section with more sweets.

Beyond the food, Frankie & Fern’s commitment to creating a welcoming, light-filled space that feels like a home away from home shines through.
