In operation since 1964, Koung’s Wantan Mee 龔氏雲吞面 which used to be located at Geylang is known for its old-school wanton noodles.

After a series of closures (at Geylang and JEM), the brand has reopened again at a 121 Geylang East Central kopitiam near Aljunied MRT station.

Note: The wait can be quite long, and they are probably still sorting out processes.

(Even the wait in the past could take a while even if you do not see many customers.)

A basic plate of Wanton Noodle in available dry or soup version, while you can opt for extra noodles, vegetables, ingredients, or dumpling.

Koung’s strength is probably in its char siew made with fresh quality pork, then marinated with a specialty sauce.

The char siew did have more lean meat than fats when compared to the usual, but it went well with the noodles which was accompanied with own-fried pork lard and oil.

The eggy noodles were tossed in this house-made chilli sauce that was quite unlike others.

I cannot say for sure that I like it 100%, but at least it was a different take from the rest.

Wantons were not bad, could be plumper I thought, and perhaps its weakest link.

While I can’t say it is my favourite Wanton Mee, I can understand why people would like this old school flavour with blend of sweet-spicy taste.
