I first visited Apartment Coffee when they first opened in 2018 at Lavender Street and they had since garnered a sizable fanbase over the years.

The fuss-free, white, minimalist aesthetics was a hit during the early days of the cafe culture scene in Singapore, and this aspect was still retained at their new location in Selegie.

The name “Apartment” resulted from the owner wanting to create the vibes of inviting people home, having conversation with coffee lovers at the bar counter seats, and for them to feel welcomed in the space.

Over here at their new location, cosy sofa seats, mini coffee tables, the long bar counter still remains, but with an addition of a long communal table in the middle of the room.

The “apartment’ has also grown in size, able to accommodate more patrons, and still does not provide takeaway coffee.

A former Singapore Brewers Cup champion, you could tell that owner Qing He has a lot of fans (or friends) when his new shop was fully packed early in the morning.

It is interesting to see many regulars walking into the cafe without much introduction, walking to an empty seat amidst the crowd and sit down knowing exactly what they want to order.

Feeling comfortable enough like right at home.

Even though Apartment Coffee can get a little crowded, the service staff members are prompt in service and very enthusiastic in giving recommendations.

Perhaps this is their definition of slow living, as the barista kept to his own pace of weighing the coffee beans, grinding it and making the perfect cup of pourover coffee at a consistent pace.

I will recommend the bar counter seats, which are the popular spots there, as patrons watch the baristas in action and interact with them over a cup of coffee.

Focusing only on drinks, the menu is predominantly pour-over coffee using single origin beans from Luis Anibal ($7.50), Costa Rica ($7), Rwanda ($7) and Kenya ($7).

I had the Luis Anibal Pink Bourbon ($7.50) that comes with a slip of tasting note, with description such as the place of origin, year of harvest, type of processing, procured and variety of beans written.

The cup of filtered coffee was smooth and well balanced, with notes of berries and grapes, and a hints of lingering floral roses.

A single origin of Ethiopia and Brazil is used for their cup of Black ($5) and White ($5.50) respectively.

My cup of White ($5.50) was smooth and full bodied with notes of chocolate and nuts, balanced by hints of apples.

Apartment Coffee still remains a cosy spot for coffee lovers to get their favourite cup to start the day. I will recommend going early in the day or during their off peak hours to fully immerse and enjoy the space.
