Known for its freshly made botanical gelato and thyme cones, Birds of Paradise has opened a 4th outlet near Bugis at Beach Road, and is considered nearby neighbours with the newly-relaunched The Coconut Club.

Birds of Paradise is so named because the shop creates gelato inspired by the botanical flavours of nature.

That means fruits, flowers, pods, herbs, and spices.

The owner was inspired to make ice cream since more than a decade ago, experimenting with all types of flavours, till he wanted to settle for something more natural, unique and healthy at the same time.

The brand also takes culinary cues from the South East Asian palate in the use of familiar herbs, such as basil and blue ginger.

Interestingly, they were also given a Michelin recommendation with a Michelin Plate, which is not that typical as all the other entries are generally restaurants and hawker stalls.

BOP flavours you can expect include White Chrysanthemum, Midnight Gianduja, Lychee Raspberry, Pistachio, Strawberry Basil, Sea-Salt Hojicha, Roasted Sesame, Dark Chocolate Sorbet, Hazelnut, Earl Grey & Lemongrass, and Mango Sorbet.

Prices go at $4.70 for a single scoop, $7.70 for double scoop, and $1 extra for thyme cone.

Between a cup and thyme cone, I would recommend the cone which has that beautiful fragrance and light crunch – best accompaniment to the creamy gelato.
