That’s fast. Haven Coffee along Tanjong Pagar Road has closed “due to an acquisition”, and in comes Natter Coffee & Gelato.

Another ice cream cafe in the area?

Let’s see… there are Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique, Cotta, 5 The Moments all within 5 minutes’ walk from one another.

Perhaps it is all due to the post Korean BBQ dessert cravings.

Natter is a specialty cafe that offers coffee and artisanal gelatos, started by 3 friends brought together by a common love for good company and food.

To late night supper goers: the cafe opens all the way till 12am from Fridays to Sundays.

The white minimalist space retains most of the look of the previous occupant, and is accompanied by lofi and R&B music in the background.

The gelato flavour selection is inspired by their travels around the world; with classic flavours going for $5 and premium flavours at $6.

When I visited, there were Pistachio, Momo Sencha, Goma, Uji Hojicha, After Eight, Tiramisu, Cookies and Cream, Sea Salt Vanilla, Honey Chrysanthemum and Cocoa Nibs, and Korean Sikhye.

The more interesting flavours were Momo Sencha which is a blend of Japanese Sencha green tea and white peach; and Korean Sikhye (morning rice with barley grains) with light bodied flavour and sweet aftertaste.

They can be paired with Hojicha or classic waffles at an additional $5.

Apart from getting some Hojicha powder on my white tee (think it was sprinkled a little much), the waffle was quite delightfully crispy with fluffy centre.

Not bad, but I would recommend lighter-flavoured ice cream (say Honey Chrysanthemum and Cocoa Nibs) to pair along.

Pistachio flavour is one of my to-go for, and glad to say this was rich and creamy with roasted pistachio bits within.

For those looking for a snack fix, they have a range of pastries sourced from Drips Bakery Cafe, and selection includes Pain Au Chocolat, Kouign Amann, Butter Croissant, Almond Croissant and Apple Crumble.

For coffee drinkers, Natter uses a specialty roast by a local micro-roaster Homeground Coffee Roasters, using Glow in the Dark Coffee Beans blend from Brazil & Mexico, slightly to the heavy-bodied side, with nutty and dark chocolatey tasting notes.

For the best of both worlds, get a Dirty Matcha or Hojicha.

Think they probably just need more awareness for now to get more people supporting. Friendly service by the way – office ladies were happy chatting with the male bosses.
