With many notable homegrown burger shops in Singapore, the one name that kept earning positive reviews is One Fattened Calf.

The idea of One Fattened Calf Burgers was born out of the husband-and-wife-duo’s passion to cook for others.

The result is this little eatery in Galaxis, churning out mouth-watering burgers for food lovers.

Okay, Galaxis at Fusionopolis may not be on many’s mind when it comes to food, but there are other choices of Bread Yard, Bowl Chap, Daehwa (Korean vegetarian), Hoodadak, Super Simple, to The Food Barn.

And yes, people travel from far away places to this part of Singapore to try One Fattened Calf.

Burger choices here include the OFC Burger ($14), OFC Cheeseburger ($15), OFC Butterburger ($15), OFC Goldburger ($18), and OFC Impossible Burger ($20). Top up $4.90 for a combo.

First, I want to talk about the wrapper which is a patented design from the United States, not the typical unwrap-the-paper-and-eat experience.

After removing the sticker and first layer, look out for an inner tab you should pull out completely. There would still be an outer layer to capture the juices that oozes and to enjoy a mess-free burger experience.

All the additional effort for the wrapper, which is often very much overlooked.

The namesake OFC Burger ($14) uses New Zealand premium grassfed beef, with a lean-fat ratio that gave the patty some welcomed chewiness.

The garnish is a mix of charred onions, red onions, tomatoes and house-made crisp pickles. The OFC special sauce, in all its umami goodness, is the thread that ties the burger together into a delightful bite.

I really enjoyed the bun which was soft to the touch, which I felt elevated the entire burger (because some buns elsewhere are more generic). The potato bun is made in-house, proofed and baked fresh.

The OFC Cheeseburger ($15) has the addition of cheddar cheese, while the OFC ButterBurger ($15) – the highly recommended choice, incorporates a piece of grassfed butter for an interesting smoothness.

Another item I tried was the OFC Goldburger ($18) which had the added element of beef brisket.

This would be my must-order, with the tender pulled beef brisket giving more varied textures and robust flavours – really went well with the whole butteries and juiciness.

Get a combo and receive OFC Fries on the side. The crunch of the thick-cut fries as you bite into it would be unmistakable, which gave way to a soft, fluffy center.

No regrets for topping up with extra cheese.

Aside from soft drinks, the OFC Golden Lime Slushie’s refreshing tanginess went well with the meat and fried food and helped cut through some of the greasiness.

Ultimately, when the buns, patty, sauce and pickles are house-made, it demonstrates an uncompromising dedication to quality.

One Fattened Calf Burgers has stood out very soon after its opening, providing a go-to burger joint when you are in One-North.
