Another ice cream cafe and this time round, it is Aphrodite Waffles & Gelato which is near the popular Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant 瑞春点心餐厅.

Opened till 2am from Fridays till Sundays, they can perhaps attract some of the supper crowd looking for post-dinner desserts.

There is going to be a stiff competition in the Jalan Besar area, populated by ice cream shops such as Phat Chic Forever diagonally opposite, Obsessive Chocolat Desire (OCD) Ice Cream Café and Three’s A Crowd (pun unintended).

Named after a character in Greek mythology, Aphrodite signifies lust, beauty, pleasure, passion and procreation.

True to their name, the interior is beautifully decked in white, minimalist Kinfolk-like design, with potted flowers on each table.

Focusing on their unique gelato flavours (Single $5, Double $9) made in-house, 12 different flavours are available at any one time.

Interesting flavours include Thyme, Blood Orange Sorbet, Salted Honey, Goat Cheese and Aphrodite (Blue Cheese Chocolate).

Other classic flavours include Roasted Pistachio, Bitter Gianduja, Hojicha, Buttery Biscoff, Coconut, Brown Butter Spice and Drifting Snowflakes Jasmine.

Home made cones are available at an additional $1 or you can opt for either the Original Waffle ($6) or Charcoal Waffle ($7).

My favourite is the Blood orange Sorbet, the only dairy-free option on the menu with blood orange peel inside.

The texture is smooth, creamy and non-icy with distinctive citrus notes which has a good balance.

The Roasted Pistachio learned towards a more mellow and earthly flavour with distinctive nutty taste in it.

Bits of crushed pistachio can be found within the creamy and sticky gelato for an extra nutty profile.

Stronger gelato flavours such as Goat Cheese and Aphrodite (Blue Cheese Chocolate) will be suitable for those who are more adventurous.

Serving both Original ($6) and Charcoal waffles ($7) on the menu, the latter was unfortunately not available at the time of visit.

With a taller and thicker look, the waffle is crispy on the outside with a nice golden brown hue.

On the inside, it is light and airy with an aromatic vanilla scent that has a good contrast in textures.

One of the better gelato shops that opened lately, Aphrodite can probably be a hit among the supper crowd since they are opened till 2am from Fridays till Sundays.
