Gourmet burger places and fast casual restaurants in the likes of Shake Shack and Five Guys are popular in Singapore, but I thought I would give a small spotlight to a homegrown brand – Zipp Burger And Pasta.
The kiosk is located at the basement (next to Shake Shake in a Tub) has more offerings, bigger space for preparation, though it mainly functions as a takeaway concept.
Signature items with both single or double patty options include the Hamburger ($8, $12), Crusty Pork Burger ($7, $11), Grilled Pork Burger ($7, $11), Classic Fish Burger ($6, $9), Cheesy Fish Burger ($7, $10), Grilled Chicken Burger ($6, $9) and Crispy Chicken Burger ($6, $9).
The prices are still considered value-for-its-money considering what you are getting.
While beef burgers are common, what is more unusual is their Signature Handcrafted Crusty Pork Burger – a juicy breaded handmade pork patty served with secret homemade sauce.
The pork patty was deep-fried with a crisp layer, and quite sizable without being too greasy.
I also tried the Grilled Pork Burger ($7, $11) – get the double for all the juiciness, and loved it for its rather ‘homemade’ taste, flavourful without being too salty.
It reminded me of what my grandma would make for me when I was young (ah man told me fastfood was not that healthy and made me homecooked alternatives.)
The Hamburger ($8, $12) also contained thick hand-formed beef patties made fresh from scratch, layered with sliced tomatoes and lettuce.
Though I have the feeling this won’t taste as moist and shiok after bringing back home, so I ate it on the spot standing up at the kiosk. It was a slightly messy affair with juices dripping and all that, but thought it was worth the experience.
I was divided on the burger bun. It was the generic type that perhaps lacked of some personality, though it gelled well for that ‘homemade’ savour.
Also available are customisable pasta. Choose from Aglio Olio or Sundried Tomato Pesto ($4) then add ingredients of your choice (starting with $2) such as white button mushrooms, pork meatballs, and grilled chicken.
$6 Grilled Chicken Pasta in a shopping mall is really affordable.
