This happens to be one of those new cafes in Singapore that opened just before the “Circuit Breaker”, but let’s believe ”What doesn’t kills you makes you stronger.”
Gelato Labo which was located at an inconspicuous corner of Cavan Road, has moved to Everton Park.
If you are in for unique gelato flavours and some happiness, then make your way here.
The humble shop with limited sitting outside churns out small batch flavours through a constant process of experimentation and refinement.
For those who are bored of the usual flavours, the good thing you always get something different here.
Flavours include Del Monte Banana & Cacao Nibs, 70% Guanaja Dark Chocolate & Valencia Orange Peel, Colombian Cold Brew & Cookie Butter Bits, Kyoto Shiso & Yuzu Jelly, Yamanashi Peach & Lemongrass, to Sakura Smoke, Artichoke & Pear Compote.
Take note these are always rotating.
They use only fresh fruits and source for local and organic ingredients where possible in the production.
A scoop for the classic flavour goes for $5, while the premium is priced at $6. Double scoops at $8 and $10 respectively, while a Jumbo Cone is at $1.40.
The Sicilian Pistachio came highly recommended, with actual nuts within and not too sweet.
Firstly, I was happy I got a big, fat scoop, not the usual smaller ones, and therefore I was feeling this was value for its money.
The Pistachio gelato was indeed rich, indulgent and had a dense consistency, with delicate roasted flavour without that artificial tasting sweetness. Good stuff.
However, when paired with a lavender-flavoured cone, the gelato flavour overwhelmed the faint aroma totally.
The cone fitted better with a more floral flavour such as the Lychee, Raspberry & Rose, which by the way had a creamy more than sorbet-like texture.
A small but promising gelato shop, with flavours that excite.
