A coffee specialty shop has opened at Farrer Garden, on the same stretch as Westlake Restaurant, and a short-walk away from Empress Road Food Centre (If you are there, Bakery Brera & Fine Foods is the next nearest bakery café.)
This may seem like an unlikely place to find a café, but there is strong expat community around, and a number of enrichment schools in the vicinity.
Coffee Plus specialises in artisanal coffee, while gelato and other small bakes are in the works.
The menu is kept lean with the offerings of white, black and pour over coffee.
The shop is serious in the coffee business and intends to micro-roast their own beans once things get more settled, with a special custom-made Giesen W6A.
If you are keen in pour over coffee, beans are currently sourced from Nylon Coffee Roasters, with options of Colombia Patio Bonito (tasting notes of orange marmalade, pear, jasmine) and Ethiopia Haru (tangerine, peach and jasmine).
Upon drinking, the Ethiopia Haru Pourover had a bright and citrusy touch in the first taste, with a smooth almost-tea-like flavour yet full bodied enough.
Due to Singapore’s “circuit break” period, Coffee Plus currently serves up only take-away drinks. However, you can still see how your coffee is brewed from outside due to the glass panel.
Would recommend all not to cafe-hop for now and try your best to stay at home. But if you stay at this vicinity, do give this small indie shops some support.
