Marina One is a joint development owned by Malaysia’s Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Singapore’s Temasek Holdings, which houses quite a number of restaurants and cafes under the retail podium called “The Heart”.
However, the buzz revolving the food there seems to be low, with little footfall there other than lunch hours.
Mellower Coffee is an established coffee chain which started back in 2011, and has since expanded with a handful of stores under its belt across Shanghai, Nanjing, Kunming.
It was popular for its signature drinks of Sweet Little Rain – cotton candy over Americano; and Ondeh Ondeh X Latte. Of course the CBD people do not have time to watch gimmicky, fluffy cotton candy melt on their hot coffee.
The menu is much leaner here, serving Single Origins ($9), Cold Brew ($7.20 – $8),Black Coffee sch as Americano ($5.20) and Caffe Latte ($6.20). Price seems to be a dollar to two more expensive than the average 3rd wave coffee shop.
I had the Classic Cold Brew ($6.80) made of blend of Ethopia and Yunnan coffee beans. Unfortunately, gone are those silver metallic bottles, and the cold brew is stored in those generic glass bottles.
Slow steeped up to 12 hours, the cold brew had a subtle and refreshing aroma, on the mild side, smooth to the palate.
Also offered are a small selection of sandwiches such as Turkey Bacon, Tuna Sweet Corn and Roast Chicken Salad ($6), Quiche ($6) and Pies ($7) of chicken with mixed vegetable, and beef with mushroom.
I thought that the signature Mellower Mousse Cake ($9) was moister than it looked, with rich chocolately savour and tinge of coffee in the cream.
While the décor and interior were done up nicely, I thought that overall this Mellower Expresso outlet lacked some character (compared to the Bugis outlet) and was like any other coffee chain store.
Perhaps also because it was functional to serve quick takeaway coffee and food.
