Here are 10 restaurants and cafes you can expect at Wheelock Place:

Sun with Moon Japanese Dining & Café
Tel: 6733 6636
Opening Hours: 11am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

Combination of both Japanese dining and café concept
Do you know that ‘Sun’ represents the main dishes, while ‘Moon’ appeals to the other and softer side – the desserts?

The Japanese fare created by Executive Chef Toshio Sawai offered here is quite extensive, from Sun Original Kamameshi, Bento sets, Kobachi, Sushi, Sashimi, Washoku combinations, to Steak dishes.

Always leave space for the desserts, with Matcha Tiramisu ($7.80), Kurogoma Pudding ($5.80) and Sun’s Tofu Cheese Cake ($6.80) being its evergreen favourites.

Signature Food – Roast Beef Don
The donburi sets have been popular among lunch-goers, and you can expect Unagi Don ($23.80), Tendon ($23.80) and Buta Don ($22.80) – pan-fried sliced pork served on rice.

I would recommend the Roast Beef Don Set ($25.80) of sliced sous-vide tender roast beef served on Japanese rice with special sauce, mayonnaise, and topped off with a soft boiled egg.

The portion is generous and makes for a satisfying meal.

This fuss-free 60-seater café is located near the Food Hall of the store, with a menu which features a selection of hot meals such as British classics of Fish & Chips, afternoon tea, snacks and drinks.

Pasta dishes are quite affordably priced, with offerings of Macaroni Cheese ($10.90) – Italian Pasta in a creamy mature cheddar cheese sauce, Spinach & Ricotta Canneloni ($12.90), Tomato & Mozzarella Grasioli ($12.90), Four Cheese Ravioli ($12.90), and King Prawn Linguine ($15.90).

Signature Food – Fish & Chips
Can’t come to a British café without trying Fish & Chips, yeah? The M&S signature consists of boneless white Atlantic Cod fillet in farmhouse crumbs, served with chunky British Crispy Chips and British Petits Pois.

Better than the last time I tried, and I still loved the ketchup. Wonder where they got it from.

Contemporary Thai food using Western and Thai ingredients
Bangkok Jam dishes out contemporary Thai and pan-Asian cuisine by weaving Western spices and cooking styles with classically Thai spices, herbs and cooking methods.

Central Hong Kong Café
Tel: +65 6734 4005
Opening Hours: 10.30am – 10:00pm Last order 9.30pm (Mon – Sun)

Wide range of all-time favourites of Hong Kong
Lead by Hong Kong Group Executive Chef Chiu Ka Wai, who has been the master chef at Regent Hotel Summer Palace for more than 20 years, you get a wide range of Hong Kong staples and street food.

This includes Fried Lamian with Seafood ($8.90), Hong Kong Wanton Noodle ($6.00 for soup, $6.50 for dry), Beef Brisket Noodle ($6.50 for soup, $7.00 for dry), Hong Kong Curry Beef Brisket On Rice ($7.90), Hong Kong Style Fried Beef Hor Fun ($8.90) along with toasts, stocking milk tea, ginger coca cola and more.

Signature Food – Braised Beef with Black Bean Hor Fun
The ‘problem’ with Hong Kong cafes are that there are too many dishes to choose from. I quite liked the saucy beef horfun, with tender braised beef slices, rice noodles smothering with wok-hei.

Alfresco all-day dining at the heart of Orchard Road
One of the latest additions to Wheelock Place, you would find many enjoying the alfresco all-day dining at Privé, as it faces the crossroads of the busy Orchard & Scotts Road junction.

To people-watch, and to be watched. Singapore can get rather hot, and it’s kind of cooling to rest there after shopping, sipping on Strawberry Iced Tea or something. No?

The hearty menu features burgers, pastas, sandwiches, desserts, bar snacks, but hey, there are actually some local favourites there such as Seafood Laksa ($16), Singapore Traditional Curry Chicken ($16), and Hainanese Chicken Rice ($17) – off free-roaming chicken, fragrant jasmine rice, chicken broth, and trio accompaniments of housemade chilli, ginger, dark soya sauce.

Signature Food – Ultimate Signature Breakfast
It is called “ultimate” for a reason, for a plate of 2 eggs of any style, 6-inch pork Bratwurst (nitrite-free), maple-glazed housemade bacon, baked beans, roasted Roma tomato, sautéed button mushrooms, potato rosti, and housemade wholemeal toast.

NamNam Noodle Bar
Tel: +65 6735 1488

Go-to Vietnamese eatery with affordable pho and crispy banh mi
Casual quick-service concept NamNam Noodle Bar serves up a variety of noodles, including Vietnam’s famous Hanoi Pho with options of Pho Chicken ($9.00), Pho Australian Beef Steak Slices ($10.00), Vegetarian with brown rice noodles ($9.00) and Australian beef combination ($11.50).

Signature Food – Banh Mi and Pho
Very good deal. Few would know that Nam Nam offers a “Good Morning Singapore” value breakfast set – offering choice of any Bánh Mì or piping hot bowl of Pho with a Vietnamese coffee or lotus tea for $5.90 nett and $6.90 nett respectively. The usual prices are $13.00 and $16.00.

Bánh Mì makes a suitable takeaway breakfast for the office, and you can choose from Caramelised 5-spice pork belly, Home-smoked salmon, Chilli-lemongrass chicken with egg omelette and chicken floss, and Sautéed lemongrass pork with cream cheese.

Sakae Sushi
Tel: +65 6737 6281
Opening Hours: 11:30am – 10:00pm (Mon – Sun)

Quick-service sushi concept with wide range of Japanese food
Sakae Sushi is a quick-service kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi concept familiar with many Singaporeans.

Office workers in the vicinity can head over to get affordable weekday lunch deals from $10.90, with offerings of Chicken Don ($10.90), Saka Don ($14.90), Katsu Curry Don ($12.90), Ebi Fry Don ($12.90), Tenzaru Sumi Udon or Cha Soba ($14.90), Salmon Teriyaki & Hotate Mentai Bento ($15.90).

All sets include a bowl of Miso Soup, Edamame with choice of one drink such as Ice Lemon Tea, Hot/Iced Yuzu or Honey Lemon.

Signature Food – Sakae Don
The Sakae Don is one of their best-selling donburi lunches, containing generous portion of air-flown Norwegian salmon sashimi sliced, small fish roe, salmon mayo, spicy salmon cubes and ikura on sushi rice.

The ingredients are arranged presentably into layers, so you can choose to mix them all up (and you get that spiciness here and there), or savour them separately.

Cedele All Day Dining
Tel: +65 6732 8520
Opening Hours: 10:00am – 10:00pm (Mon – Sun)

Wholesome food to nourish the body
This outlet at Wheelock Place is a full-service “All Day Dining” restaurant, which features a more extensive dine-in menu with table service.

For brunch lovers, you can go for the All Day Breakfasts which includes the popular Truffled Eggs Benny ($18.00) served on home-made brioche buns, freshly-made Wild Blueberry Pancakes ($14.00), as well as a Super Acai Bowl ($11.00) made with acai berry, yoghurt topped with superfoods granola and goji berries.

Good to know that Cedele also cater to those with special dietary preferences – vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free.

Signature Food – Mixed Mushroom Garlic Tossed Rice, Lemongrass Fish Pasta
I was told that the Lemongrass Fish Pasta is popular among lunch-goers at Wheelock Place, because it is light on the palate yet makes a satisfying protein-heavy meal.

Topped on the wholemeal linguine was white seabass, flavoured with lemongrass lime dressing and tomato salsa, accompanied by edamame, rocket leaves, and sprouts.

I was also intrigued by the organic blackberry rice used in the Mixed Mushroom Garlic Tossed Rice ($18.00). Accordingly, black rice offers comparable health benefits of brown rice, but also packed with anthocyanin antioxidants found in blueberries or blackberries. Taste wise, the rice was nuttier and had a chew and resembles the texture of wholegrain rather than fluffy white rice but the added poached egg helped to balance it off.

American coffee chain with new beverages and local delights
Starbucks has just introduced new beverages of Acai Mixed Berry Yogurt Frappuccino and Granola Dark Mocha Frappuccino.

The former is made up of tangy yogurt that’s been infused with Acai berries. For the chocolate-lovers, the Granola Dark Mocha Frappuccino is Coffee Frappuccino blended with dark chocolate sauce and hearty cereal. Can be sweet and filling.

Signature Food – New Local Delights
Looks like incorporating local elements into food is becoming a trendy thing. For savouries, the Starbucks special is the Otah Otah Frittata Croissant Sandwich – savory fish otah and egg omelette sandwiched between soft baguette.

The sweets look promising, combination favourites of the old-school days with modern cakes. That includes Horlicks White Chocolate Cake, Ovaltine Chocolate Cake, Pulut Hitam Cake, and Ondeh Ondeh Gula Melaka Cake – gula melaka sits between layers of pandan sponge cake, sprinkled with coconut flakes.
