38 eateries from Singapore have made it to the Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2017. (Read: Singapore Michelin Guide 2017 – The Results).

The Bib Gourmand guide highlights restaurants offering “exceptional good food at moderate prices”, and about half in that list are hawker stalls.

They must offer menu items priced below a maximum determined by local economic standards. In Singapore’s guide, the price is set at $45.

Major (maybe not so major) surprises:
The notable new restaurant that made the cut was Man Man Japanese Unagi Restaurant by Chef Teppei Yamashita at Keong Saik Road – and queues are just going to get even longer, already said to be anything between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours.

– Hawker Chan’s relatively new Liao Fan Michelin Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken at 78 Smith Street is in, which can mean his original stall at Chinatown Food Complex is likely to retain the star.

Tsuta Ramen which is Michelin-starred in Japan, gets a nod with Bib Gourmand in Singapore.

– Last year’s favourites Fishball Story and JB Ah Meng are noticeably out. Either it was because they moved from the previous locations (interestingly they are kind of neighbours now); or perhaps they could really get a star. You never know.

– Malay stall Wedang is not included in this year’s list. After moving from Golden Mile to Aljunied, readers have said that the stall could be closed.

– While 2016’s list was criticised of being focused on central regions of Singapore, a notable inclusion in 2017 is Zai Shun Curry Fish Head 载顺咖喱鱼头 located at 253 Jurong East Street 24.
